Screen footage of concerts - what happens to them?
I've always wondered this. At most concerts if not all you'll see multiple camera's filming for the big screens in the venue so that those who can't see the stage can follow via the screens.
Does anyone know what happens to this footage after, is it wiped or archived? I always assumed they were not kept but recently I noticed a few Spice Girls concerts have leaked onto the web which is simply footage that was recorded for the screens but is the next best thing to an official DVD recording as can be seen here. Would be interested to know more information such as how are they archived (DVD, etc..) if anyone does know |

I think that Christina Aguilera had all of them kept from her Back to Basics Tour for her own personal archive.

It's ridiculous that I've never wondered that until now. Very good question, I have no answer though.

They should be made available online for free download if you attended the concert and for a fee if you did not

most of them are "raw Feeds" so they'd need a director whilst the gig is being recorded ot at least an editor post production

Well at festivals I assume they're recorded, especially if a highlight's show will be broadcast. I reckon most pop concerts are unrecorded live feeds, with maybe some exceptions. Say for example Take That's tour, maybe a few of them were recorded for the DVD, the other feeds may not have been recorded.

I just always assumed they were never recorded unless either a DVD or highlights show was being made. I've been to a few concerts that have been recorded for DVD and they always have signs up all over the place telling you that it's being recorded

think most artists just put them into their 'vaults'.
in fact doesn't metallica allow you to buy mp3s of the songs each time they place a concert now? Last edited by killthedirector : 13-07-2012 at 14:14. Reason: something to add |

I assume they go somewhere, but I reckon even for the artist they'd be difficult to track down. I recall Mariah Carey saying there was footage of one of her tours, I think it was the Rainbow Tour, and she said she'd love to have made a DVD but no one knows where the footage has actually gone.

Out of interest, how do they decide which shots get put on the screen?
