All OK here too.
I think that if the sites were down this board would crash with all of the complaints.

If you're using IE look here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/967897

Weird, it's as if all sites started dying, first search, then all the others, now I've restarted router everythings back to normal, could it be a sign my router is failing?

check your DNS settings, there was some story about infected machines will start to fail as FBI shut down hacker servers which had hijacked DNS settings on PC

Presumably that can't be the case as it's all fine now I've rebooted the router can it, the router can't be infected can it?

Routers can be 'infected' and have the DNS settings altered, but in your case it's more likely just a glitch which was fixed by power cycling the router. If you get more problems, you'll need to investigate further.

Is it explainable though, that the search websites disappeared first, but Digital Spy still worked?

Without any info, no one can say. It may have been an ISP issue which sorted itself out by the time the router was rebooted. Or it could simply have been a coincidence. But when something like this happens, it's always a good idea (even just for peace of mind) to run a scan with your AV and Malwarebytes.

my website was down this morning

i agree that jzee's issue was most likely just one of those things.

that only search site were affected is a bit suspicious. but i wouldn't be unduly worried. after i'd scanned with MB
