Has anyone wanted a pet but they couldn't get one for reasons?

I've wantd one but my parents are busy so there's no one to look after it at school so I can't get one..and my mum doesn't like pets :S

Been there. Mine would never let me have pets.

"It'll only be a phase, you'll get fed-up and we'll be stuck with it."

I had to wait until I left home and got a place of my own. Since when I've always had pets and can't imagine life without them.

Edit - apart from when a budgie adopted us and we were allowed to keep it. I remember being distraught, when he died (bless you bimbo).

I wanted a dog from the age of 6 or 7 but my dad doesnt like them (thought the would ruin his garden - he was probably right) so I wasn't allowed one. They let me have everything else though, guinea pigs, cats, mice, rat, lizards...

I had to wait until I was 30 to be able to have a stable enough life and the time to get a dog. Now I have two and he winces every time my dogs go round and trample on his plants and wee on his lawn

I dont think I appreciated at the time what a big commitment getting a dog would be - its more work than I realised!

Just a thought - maybe you could volunteer at a local rescue or help a neighbor with their pets? There is a local greyhound rescue near me which lets people take the dogs out for walks. You could even make money from starting a pet sitting business!

This poster is correct, I have walked dogs for the RSPCA and now I am walking them for the Border Collie Trust, its challenging and great fun.

I always just went out and got one anyway. My mum and dad were as soft as I am and I never got wrong for bringing pets home as long as I looked after them.
