Hi all,

I am just wondering about the cost of freesat recorder vs freeview recorder.

Currently my freesat box is for viewing only. To get a freesat recorder I think I would need to replace the current single LNB with a quad LNB = additional cost on top of the box. Can anyone please tell me roughly how much this additional cost would be?

Another option of course is to forget about freesat and just get a freeview recorder.

Thanks

Depends if you are going to do the job yourself.

Quad lnb about £7.00 (ebay) and about a tennners worth of cable.

You can use (uniquely for a Freesat+ box) both tuners on a Foxsat-hdr using your existing single lnb.

The cost of a Freesat+ box is around the £200-£300 mark and the Quad LNB would cost about 99p-£40

If I were you and want ITV Player I would go for the 1TB Humax box

Or you could go for the Echostar Slingbox one

Thanks for replies. I am not keen on doing the quad lnb myself so I guess that would be another £30 - £50 labour for someone to do it. The Foxsat-hdr not needing a quad lnb sounds good but I am concerned about a few bad reviews I have seen re the remote and locking up. I am still thinking but am leaning to a freeview recorder.

Thanks

If you are getting a Freeview Recorder make sure you get a Freeview HD one with the label Freeview HD+ on it

See this website for the prices and which ones to get
http://www.freeview.co.uk/Freeview-P...ts/Freeview-HD

You will be future proofed for the future, if you want you could wait for the YouView box to come out and buy one of them if you want, but these are very expensive at the moment

Oh Joshua, you do have a way with words!

That list on the Freeview website lists lowest priced boxes first by default - not a great way to buy a hassle-free piece of kit. I'm not sure it's a complete list either.

Cheers,
David.

Anyway if my TV has at least two scarts then I can have both freeview and freesat on the same TV right? And these two boxes could be both recorders, both view-only or one of each?

Thanks

If one of the boxes has two SCART sockets then you can daisy-chain the other box through it to the TV, so the TV itself only needs one SCART socket. Even if the TV only has more than one then still best to connect everything to the first to get the best picture.

Both could be recorders or any combination. The satellite box gets it's signals from a dish, the terrestrial from an aerial. The satellite box recording wise doesn't connect to the terrestrial aerial at all. One works totally independently of the other. The freeview box can be a twin tuner pvr, so can the Freesat box but in general that needs two cables to a dish.

If it is running the cable thats the problem you could go for a unicable LNB for about £49 (but it would need to be the Foxsat) which needs to be set to unicable support. then it will work fully on one cable (With the loop from LNB1 OUT to LNB2 IN) in exactly the same way as a two cable install. All you have to do is replace the LNB - a very simple task.
