I'm after a good Blu-ray Player... Any advice?
Afternoon,
I'm after a Blu-ray Player. I'm looking to spend about £150. I know you can spend fortunes on these things, but I don't have the money to do that, unfortunately. ![]() Basically, I'd like one that gives an excellent PQ. Sound isn't really a sticking point as I don't currently have a big surround sound system, and don't plan on getting one in the near future. I'd like it to have Wi-Fi, plus the ability to play other media files via a USB or whatever. I currently have a PS3, but find the fan noise distracting, and quite loud sometimes (rather off-putting). Any suggestions for good models to look at? Thanks!

I don't think you'll go far wrong with a panasonic 220 (or the earlier 210) or a sony. Just make sure its got all the outputs you need - some have been skimping on optical/coaxial audio outputs if you need one of them.

LG's BP620 plays from USB and has WiFi. Also 3D.

I'd go to richer sounds - normally cheaper.

I got the Sony BDPS790 free with the Sony flat screen TV I bought recently. Its great. No problems at all, wifi built in, very quick start, etc. Sony have a couple that are cheaper, in teh range but look the same. Probably good value too.

The Panasonic DMP-BDT310 is a Which? Best Buy and well rated on Amazon as well. Current price is £160 including delivery. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-DM...2193416&sr=8-2

That's been supreceded by the 320 now though. If I was buying one I'd want the latest model. Might just be me though!
That doesn't make the 310 a bad machine though and at £160 a bargain. More useful if you have a hdmi amp as the player has two hdi outputs - one for the tv and one for the amp. If you don't need two outputs, you could go for the 220. |

The 320 sells for £170 so not much more.

So I'd compare them both before spending even an extra £10 on the newer model. |

Looks like you might be right Nigel - the 320's lost a hdmi output, and gained a tacky looking remote.

Thanks guys, much appreciated. Having looked at the ones mentioned, along with a few tech website reviews, I'm swaying towards the Panasonic DMP-220(or the 310 model mentioned above).
Just another quick one... How noisy are they? I mean, the PS3, while a decent player in that it provides good PQ in my experience, is noisy with the fans (louder as it gets hotter) - it's a tad off-putting during quiet bits in films. Are they fairly silent, like a DVD player? |

I've had 2 PS3s, a Fat and a Thin and found them both equally irritating when it came to fan noise but in my experience dedicated bluray players are almost silent. |

Thanks for the tips guys. I think I'm going to go for the Panasonic DMP-BDT220. Having read a few reviews, there seems to be little difference between that and the BDT320 - apart from a different disc tray and remote (and I'm not too fond of touch-screen things
).The picture quality - the most important thing really - seems to be the same on both. Thanks again. |

I'm unsure what model you have but my PS3 slim doesn't make any noise unless you go up very close to it. (my old 60GB PS3 is very noisy)
Also there is a rumoured super slim due out next month that will reduce the need for cooling even more. |
