02 or Orange PAYG
Now in the main, I will research things before I buy - and have concluded that either 02 or Orange are the best PAYG service for what I want - now, I ordered an 02 SIM a couple of weeks ago from eBay but apparently o2 are beinbg pratts and not letting the seller sell it or something....
So, this is what I do: Send lots of pictures and want e-mail from my phone, ring my house and Virgin and T-Mobile phones... Orange or 02? Cheers Alex |

02 I would suggest; it's cheapest to ring other networks, cheaper for peak calls, (Orange are popular for their off-peak rates), and you can take pics/send email from both, it's the phone, not the service

search on both networks websites to see network coverage in your area first.You may find one has blackspots and the other covers them.
Also if your texting o2 are 10p per text and orange is 12p and you can buy the o2 online pay as you go type of sim and get 300 free texts when you top up with £10 every month. Im with o2 and happy.Others will say they suffer from 02 problems tho such as texts being delayed etc... I would of thought tho if you are calling virgin and tmobile phones then it would make sense getting a phone on one of those networks so mobile 2 mobile costs are smaller.Not sure if virgin supports email tho. |

Yup, Virgin unfortunately haven't caught up with "the future"... Would one of those "genie SIMs" that were free - that I got - be any good for day-day use, or are they "free, so what do you expect" sort of thing?

I've switched from O2 Contract to an Orange PAYG.
Ignoring call costs and coverage maps.... O2's Customer Service was appaling (and cost me £40+ due to various errors they made) I have no confidence in their ability to do the simplest task properly. In contrast I've actually written a letter to Orange to thank them for their excellent and efficient service. Their website's automatic pop3 email & GPRS email setup worked perfectly too on my P900. |

I've been with both (Orange for about 3 years and more recently O2 for about 6 months), and they have their advantages and disadvantages. In my personal experience, these are the pro's and cons of each:
Orange - Excellent network coverage (4/5 reception bars on phone) - Good range of phones, most cheap on the website - MMS, GPRS, WAP etc all work very well - They still do £5 e top-ups - Ability to choose own off peak hours - Poor customer service, it took me 3 or 4 phone calls to simply get MMS activated on my phone - Call charges aren't the cheapest O2 - The sim card with 300 free texts is the best text deal around at the minute plus you get to use the £10 on calls - Cheaper calls than Orange - Ability to choose which tariff you want - Good promotions e.g. they gave free calls all day one Sunday & the bolt-ons are good value - Not very good recepton (2/5 reception bars on phone), text messages sometimes fail to send first time & calls often get disconnected - GPRS wap only works about 50% of the time - Poor customer service & it's 50p a minute (although they're now doing a trial were it's free from your phone) In conclusion O2 are better for me at the minute because I'm sending alot of texts and most of the cons are outweighed by the value of the free messages (300 msgs x 10p per message = saving of £30) but Orange are a good stable network. |

the genie sim that you talk about is the same one i mean with 300 free texts.Nothing wrong with it,its just like any other o2 simcard and you will get the same service network wise..not sure but i think downside is no free customer service.Think its charged at 50p a min or you can email them.Someone else will tell you this for sure tho as i know thats what it is for online pay monthly customers.
