Favourite golden rum
I'm getting more into rum. I don't like dark rum/navy and really not a fan of white rums like Bacardi but I do like golden rums.
I also don't like paying out too much so look for 70cl in the range of £12-£15. The ones i've tried recently are Havana Club Anejo Especial Mount Gay They were both on offer so fitted into the price range and another one from Tesco but I can't remember the name but I think it was from Barbados and it was very nice.

My dad buys Mount Gay Golden Rum.
I had some a couple weeks ago and enjoyed it, first time I ever tried it. |

I've only recently gotten in to drinking it.
A cuba libre with coke and lime is nice but something more refreshing to me is with ginerbeer and lemonade. You can also add lime or use a variation on ginger beer like the Levi Roots one. |

Since trying mount gay and appletons, I find havanna a bit cheap tasting! I'm not a connoisseur, I usually only get what's on special in the supermarket tbh.
Not a white rum fan, but I like dark rum and ginger beer. |

I finally tried some Ron Zacapa the other night and it was phenomenal.
The general opinion among rummers I know is that you can't get a "sipper" (good enough to drink straight), for under £25. It is well worth you considering drinking less and paying the extra tenner for quality, imho. The first layer of really top-notch aged spirits is generally £25-£35...and that applies to whisky and tequila as well. (Vodka of course is a marketing rip-off. It's not clear why any vodka or gin should be over £15 as neither of them are aged or particularly difficult to produce.) Appleton Extra (12 year old) you can get for £28, Clement VSOP, El Dorado 12, Mount Gay XO are all in this range...Barbancourt 8...Diplomatico. One great thing about rum is that it is produced in so many countries and in such diverse styles. Barbancourt is from Haiti, for example, Clement from Martinique, El Dorado from Guyana and Diplomatico from Nicaragua. Who would have known that these places make a product superior to most Cognac and frankly many whiskeys in the same price range? Everything mentioned above is delicious and there are loads more. The problem is that quality rum has not caught on properly in the supermarkets yet, although I picked up a bottle of VX for £15 around Xmas at Tesco (but VX, nice as it is, is rough compared to the Extra). Don't underestimate the white rums like Havana 3 and El Dorado 3 btw. They are outstanding in mojitos, daquiris caipirinha and many other refreshing classics (I classify "cachaca" as a white rum because it is made from sugar cane.) |

I like to have long drinks and not sippers. That's why I don't like to pay over £15.

That's just reminded me of wray and nephew, I'm not sure if it counts as rum though. It's got a very unusual taste.

This. Spiced rum is the way forward. Captain Morgans or Sailor Jerry's if you have a sweeter tooth. With lemonade or cola. Bacardi also have a new one out that I've seen advertised, but I'm yet to try it. Will wait until I find a bar that has it rather than buying a whole bottle and not liking it! Bacardi Oakheart it's called... http://www.bacardi.com/uk/products/bacardi-oakheart

My favourite golden rum is Angostura 1919 Rum which is about the only one I've tasted which is smooth enough to be enjoyed neat but none of my local bars, supermarkets or off licences stock it
![]() However I see that Sainsbury's are currently selling 1919 for only £23 per bottle (even cheaper than Amazon) so I might have to stock up on a few bottles next time I'm near a big store! Otherwise I'm quite partial to Appleton Estate VX, Pusser's or Mount Gay Eclipse on the rocks or mixed with cola. Sailor Jerry's goes very nicely with ginger beer - Perfect Storm The only time I drink white rum is in a mojito Havana Club - The real cuban rum: Mojito Cocktail Recipe but the only bar I've been to in UK that makes good mojitos is Cubana which is conveniently located a short walk from the Waterloo IMAX, on the rare occasions I can actually get weekend tickets for a showing! |

I've never liked the idea of white rum, I've always thought it's a drink that should have some colour to it.

Oakheart is similar to morgans spiced. I dont think you would not like it.
Now when in france we bought some rhum agricole. Horrible. Threw it away after a few years. |

Just over £19 a bottle on line - Bundaberg Australian Rum. This is fantastic stuff - beautiful taste, able to drink it on its own.

Mount Gay. mmmmm.
I have distinct memories (or do I?) of rum cocktails during Trinidad carnival. We were woozy after just one . Must have been 90 per cent proof.
