Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 - 16GB (Have I got a fake?)

Hi all.

A while back I asked the forums if they could help me find the 16GB of the 7 inch Galaxy Tab 2. The Nexus 7 wasnt quite to my needs as I wanted an SD expansion.

I was pointed to Amazon where a marketplace seller was selling it for £142. I took the plunge and bought it...

Link here btw:

I have had it delivered today, and am a little bit worried about what I've received. For a start the box is all in Chinese. I think I understand the concept of 'grey market' goods where it is cheaper for retailers to import electronics from other territories than source them in the UK.

The second thing I notice before opening the box is the big '8GB' icon in the corner of the box. This has annoyed me as I believe I ordered thinking I was getting the 16GB. I can walk into a Carphone Warehouse or Currys and pick up a proper English version of the 8GB for £200.

The next thing I notice is a warranty checker link and hologram sticker that directs me to http://www.shkad.com.hk/ From here I'm supposed to enter my serial number of the device (on the bottom of the box) and it tells me its genuine. Problem is I think the site looks iffy and that it has been set up to make me think I've got the real deal.

Last but not least there are security seal stickers on the box, so I haven't opened it yet. I figure if I open it, I might have some issues being able to send it back. A piece of me wonders though if inside the box is in fact a 16GB legit version of the device.

I've emailed the seller, and hope they can assure me that they'll either send me what I asked for, or refund me.

What do you guys reckon? I thought I was quite safe ordering through Amazon Marketplace.

The seller dropped the price a little after I ordered

Sounds like a fake. Registration is usually done via your local Samsung site. Not a different one in China.

I would never by a phone or tablet etc off a seller on amazon or eBay. In fact I would buy direct from a reputable online store or high street for the sake of a few quid.

It might be grey market if it was much cheaper then normal price. But if it's 8GB instead of 16GB you are entitled to a refund or replacement.

Sorry I meant £242 on the original post.

I've had a few responses from the company. They realise they have sent out the wrong model and have given me the option to return for the correct model(16gb) or keep the 8gb and get a partial refund of £50.

I've taken the refund as there's a 3 week wait for the other and I want if to take on holiday in a few weeks. They say it's a Hong Kong grey import which strangely comes with Chinese box and language on the device. But has english manual and 3 pin plug!

Turned it on and it works exactly like ive seen in online video reviews. Had to work out where the language menu was from all the hyroglyphs!

I still wonder if I've been had, but I think I'll just take it as a lesson for buying future gadgets from less than official companies.

Mr Cool: I can get some pictures up if you're interested?
