What would be your ideal exit storylines for Corrie's elderly cast?

In the least morbid way possible, we can say with some certainty that out of Ken, Emily, Rita, Dennis, Audrey, Norris, and Sylvia, some or all of them will be leaving in the next 10 years or so. And I don't think anyone enjoys the notion of such long-running characters having no final scene of any significance - Jack and Vera's exit felt much more climactic and satisfying to most than Blanche's or Betty's did, as Jack and Vera had the chance to film final scenes.

So if, in an ideal world, we get the chance to see an ending for all the older cast, how would you like their characters to be concluded?

For me personally:

Ken - A special final episode where he looks back on his life whie terminally ill - Ken's final episode should be a really momentous one, as there has never been a Corrie without Ken.

Emily - A quiet and peaceful exit would be befitting.

Norris - Leave to go travelling with Mary, after a tearful goodbye to Rita. Norris should be a character who is always out there somewhere.

Rita and Dennis - Rita is another character who should be sort of "everlasting", the same way Elsie Tanner was only confirmed as dead last year. Her and Dennis should drive off into the sunset.

Audrey and Sylvia - No idea really, but I got the feeling Audrey's heart attack storyline was introducing an eventual exit route for her.

Thoughts? (And I've tried really hard not to be disrespectful about the actors' ages, so don't come down on me too hard for that please!)

Ken should be in bed with a glamorous model when Deidre comes in, sees Ken on top of this bird so she whips off her belt and strangled Ken with it.

On a trip to blackpool, a tram heads straight for Rita, she manages to jump out of the way and counts herself very lucky to have missed bein hit by a tram for the third time, she then looks out to the sea and sees Norris and Mary skinny dipping and she has a heart attack from the shock.

Emily should be found dead in her sex dungeon, she has been murdered and this leads to a huge murder investigation which reveals secrets about Emily no one expected.

BIB: Reminds me of a story about a local businessman... he had some really kinky secrets no one knew about and he ultimately died at the hands of his erotic fantasies...

On a more lighter note (!) I would like Emily to announce she is to retire to the countryside to be nearer Spider Nugent.

I know dramatic endings for the more senior members of Coronation Street would add shock value but I think it'd be disrespectful to them and the viewers.

Agree with all these really.
As for Audrey's heart attack, I saw it more as a way for David to realise what he was doing and change things, but in the long term I think it could be an exit route.

Not murdered, just left hanging there, due to lack of interest.

I think Ken should get week long episode when his retire.

Norris have heart attack and die after seeing Rita and Emily going it on.

Then after months Mary found out have Norris dies and go on wallpath killing Emily and Rita, Audrey get into cross fire with Mary which end up her having Heart Attack.

Mary then end up getting killed by Roy after a chess match go wrong which end up him and hayler fleeing Corrie and stay with becky where ever she is.

Roy mum and Dennis got together but Dennis get cancer and died after long battle of cancer, Roy mum fly off to aboard and two years later someone on street found out she died in her street.

I'd like Ken to intend to move away from the street, but on moving day the stress becomes too much and he collapses and dies in Deidre's arms. It's be ironic really...

Emily. I actually think the best way would be for Norris just to find her one morning dead. It'd be complete shock, no long term illness or no real build up. But big shock, and it could have a long aftermath with Norris and Rita struggling to cope.

Rita and Dennis going off and traveling the world would be good. Or moving closing to Mavis. I think Rita's about the only one of the proper long term guard that I can imagine moving away from the street.

I'd like to see Audrey happily retire, moving away to live with Sarah and Stephen in Italy, or wherever they are. But I just don't see her leaving Gail behind... But I think Audrey deserves a happy ending.

Norris wins a competition Mary enters him in to become a journalist, or something really random. Initially doubting he can do it, after being pushed from by his friends says his emotional goodbyes and walks out the street forever.

Sylvia, either falls out with Roy and Hayley and moves away with the American guy, or dies of a long term illness which means a big story for Roy and Hayley.

she then looks up and sees a tram coming from the opposite direction

In keeping with their highly developed sense of patriotic and civic duty, the elderly residents of the street volunteer to make up the shortfall in security guards at the 2012 Olympics.

They are all assigned to the one entrance that is the object of a terrorist attack (by the Popular Front For The Liberation of Occupied British West Hartlepool).

Sadly, they all survive, only to be wiped out by a random outbreak of botulism at a motorway service area on their way home.

Ken - By his final episode, he has had an illness for a few weeks and accepts he is about to die. He decides to take a stroll around the street, looking back on old times. He visits Emily, and while she disappears round the back to make a cup of tea, he has a flashback to the first episode when he was with his mother and father at the table, and his dad was having a go at him. Later he goes to the pub, and has a flashback to Annie Walker in the first episode, and when Dennis Tanner first entered inside and when Ken gave him cigarettes because Dennis never had any money left. Ken feels sick, and decides to return to number 1. He looks around the living room at the times living there with Albert Tatlock. He then rests down and passes away.

Emily - they have been missing a couple of days. While Rita and Dennis investigate, they find a secret doorway in the living room leading into a dungeon. They find Norris shackled by his wrists to the ceiling in the middle of the room naked. Emily is dead on the floor, naked in leather pants with a whip beside her. She had a heart attack during the session of whipping Norris. Norris is freed and safe. This also coincides with the departure of Mary, who feels betrayed that Norris wouldn't let her be involved.

An alternative version for this was that Norris was to die as well, starved to death from being shackled too long without food.

British West Hartlepool was the name my father sneered at it as he drove us through on an accidental detour once.

So remote and out of the way. to his metropolitan Geordie mind, that it was probably a Commeanwealth dependency.

Ken - has a heart attack while having sex on the 60th anniversary. He is taken into the afterlife by Mike Baldwin. "come on then old croaner....looks like you couldn't keep up afterall" "BALDWIN....You couldn't resist it could you!" Dedire feels Ken go lifeless and limp and screams "Ken....do something" before she realizes he has snuffed it.

Emily - dies in a stampede in a protest

Rita - hit by a tram driven by mad maya

Audrey - electrocuted by a hairdryer. She goes out with a bang and a new perm.

Norris - wins the lottery, loses the ticket, and in a rage sets fire to the kabin, where he becomes trapped inside. He is rescued by Tyrone, who finds the ticket, but he passes away soon after leaving Tyrone a multimillionare......Tommy beings a plot to con him out his money, Tyrone buys the factory, then Angela and Norris junior turn up looking for their share too.

Emily needs to go out in a blaze of glory - choking on a dildo. She's discovered by Sean, who faints at this sight, then Marcus comes rushing in and makes a Kenneth Williams-esque 'oooooohhhh' noise. Roll credits.

A nice take on Rita's life-long love affair with trams - Alan Bradley's identical twin brother finds her while she and Dennis are summering in Blackpool. Rita runs off, terrified at the spectre of Bradley's return and straight in to the path of a speeding tram. Luckily, she manages to jump out of the way just before impact, and before she has chance to spout a witty retort, another tram, travelling in the opposite direction finally takes her down. The camera pans up from the scene of the accident to a distant shot off the Blackpool coast, where a cgi Alan Bradley's head appears in the sky, laughing in a haunting manner at Rita's demise. Roll credits.

Kenneth's demise is as spectacular as his 500 years on the cobbles. One Tueaday afternoon, he falls asleep on that uncomfortable-looking sofa in his dining room. It's not until 2 weeks later when his corpse begins to rot that other folk realise he's departed.

Norris takes it upon himself to investigate a customer who underpays their newspaper delivery by one day before cancelling their subscription. One evening, he is rustling in the bushes in front of the customers house, trying to get a good look inside, when a burly looking man pulls back the foliage and exposes Norris! Norris crys "noooooo, leave me be!" But Norris then realises it isn't a burly man at all - its a grizzly bear that escaped from Weatherfield zoo! "Arghhhhhh," cries Norris as the bear takes a swipe - and with that, Norris is dispatched. The bear continues to maul Norris' lifeless remains as a car with a giant paper clip atop speeds past. Roll credits.

Although it was a joke, I like this You can sort of imagine it and it would be poignant and allow for tributes and stuff about her consistent character.
  1. If Anne Kirkbride is still around and William Roache was being written out, I'd love to see a Ken and Dierdre two hander where they reminicse on their ups and downs and Ken talks about his whole life.
  2. Rita, finally retires from the Kabin and makes a tearful farewell with Dennis, after walking down the cobbles taking the Street in for the last time. The ending implying that a new chapter is just beginning.
  3. I can imagine a ninety year old Audrey being around in twenty years time, living with Gail and driving her mad. Audrey's health declines terminally and she is robbed of all dignity and independence. Gail must choose whether to kill her mother, as requested by her, or let her suffer.
  4. Norris begins investigating a murder by the latest Weatherfield psycopath; his investigations ultimately result in the culprit being caught at the expense of his own life.
  5. Gloria dies in Stella's back room, after telling her daughter how much of an amazing person she is. Stella's secret long lost twin sister, Bella, also played by Michelle Collins, then arrives and comforts Stella in the back room.
  6. Sylvia dies from food poisoning. This instigates a major murder mystery; was the culprit Sean's Hotpot or Roy's dodgy sausage?
    Spoiler

KEN - discoveres hes terminally ill! Rather than tell anyone he keeps it to himself. When he goes missing everyone on the street is worried!
A special week of Corrie set away from the street would see Ken visiting faces from his past, saying his goodbyes. He eventually returns to the street were everyone is relieved he's safe. During a welcome home drink at the Rovers a very Ill Ken becomes visibly weaker. Its then he reveals to the pub the that he's dying.

His final episode takes place in his home surrounded by his family and friends!

His final conversation is with Diedre and she is the only one preset when he passes away in her arms

RITA - Ritas priorites change. She becomes restless and tells Dennis she's getting no younger, she wants to see the world, visit old haunts one last time. After an emotional party at the Rovers, were she serenades everyone Rita decides she cannot bring herself to have the big emotional goodbyes and she and Dennis decide to leave in the dead of night. Her exit would be like Elsie Tanners, looking around the street as snow silently falls on the cobbles, hearing voices of her past. Before she climbs into a cab and leaves the street forever

EMILY - She starts developing Dementia at an alarming rate. It becomes clear that the best thing is to send her to a home. All the residents gather to wish her well but its only Ken and Ritas Emily can remember as she's taken away from the street forever leaving Norris devastated

Knowing Corrie right now they would just all disapear without no explanation as the writers would be far to busy thinking up stories for Stella, and if Ken was lucky enough for an exit then saint Stella would naturally take a centre role in the storyline.
