Hi all,

Does anyone know if there are any plans to add the band aid 20 single onto itunes, or anywhere else I can download it off the web that will be compatible in itunes?

Thanks

I heard on Radio 2 earlier that it won't be on itunes as itunes don't want to charge more than 79p per track.

Today's Times: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article...373305,00.html

"THE Apple iTunes music store has refused to sell the charity Band Aid song Do They Know It’s Christmas? because it would damage the company’s dominance of the download market".

"Universal was able to secure online Band Aid deals with MyCoke Music, Tiscali, NTL, Wanadoo, Virgin Mega-store, MSN, Virgin.net, MTV, HMV and Napster, as well as an official site, www.buybandaid20.com"

BandAid20 is 'special', even the Government is pitching in to refund the VAT.

This is a public relations disaster for Apple / iTunes.

Why they would risk a Geldof soundbite amazes me. I can't wait!

That's crazy, absolutely ridiculous. Apple should be ashamed of themselves.

Apple should be ashamed of themselves.
As ashamed as I should be for not wanting to spend my money on some god awful track?

Why pay for something inferior?

Get the CD if you want it legally.

i was planning on buying this off iTMS and kept looking, i'm shocked that it isn't going to be added.

Oh well, i'll get the single tomorrow if possible.... at least it does a bit towards charity.

Just give your money direct to charity. This is the 3rd time this single has been released. You would think someone would come up with something more original.

And the video really annoys me too, especially the bloke from the darkness. When he tries to look sympathetic it just looks like he is taking th p*ss

... erm; taken from Apple UK's website:

Band Aid 20 on iTunes Music Store
The new recording of Band Aid’s “Do They Know It’s Christmas?”, featuring Bono, Robbie Williams, Dido, Coldplay, Joss Stone, Will Young and others, is now available on the iTunes Music Store in the UK. iTunes will donate 70p to the Band Aid Charitable Trust every time the song is purchased. And if you want a dose of nostalgia, download the original track as well; its proceeds are also given to charity.

Either Apple changed their mind, or it was all hot air!

Have a nice day!

More Apple-ness.

Everywhere else is charging £1.49 and Apple charge 70p less.

Result - They can look to be oh so charitable by donating 70p per track (to take it to the £1.49) and more people use their music store due to the cheaper price (whilst knowing the charity still gets the same money) and maybe not just for this single.

Not quite.

Apple dug a deep hole for themselves by insisting on charging 79p for downloaded tracks and miscalculated the PR fallout over not making an exception for Band Aid 20.

So now everyone is happy (except the poor souls who actually play the song).

Nice one, Apple.
