... for ICS? The upgrade must be long overdue, especially since Jelly Bean is out now.

Edit: and please don't suggest jail-breaking. I'm not prepared to do that, especially for software localised for the US market.

They have no incentive to upgrade you, they already have a 8-month old successor to it so I doubt you'll ever get an upgrade.

if you go to http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/moto...199-99-1265591 follow the first comment the follow the instructions, as it says read the instructions twice, this was my initial error..

Not necessarily, my OH's Asus Transformer was upgraded to ICS after the Transformer Prime was launched.

Same here, it's not rooting the Xoom just flashing so it's a US Google Experience Device so you get updates faster, none of it is localised to the US, Play Store etc is in pounds, it was fast and easy and no waiting for Motorola now!

I upgraded to ICS. Made my galaxy 2 dog slow buggy and prone to switching off

Be carefully what you wish for

I gedified mine about 3 or 4 months ago to get ICs and have to say it is faster, smoother and overall much better than Gingerbread.

As far as the Xoom is concerned my Xoom is a Uk device with a UK keyboard.

Allegedly, Jelly Bean is coming around the 19th of July.

I was hesitant to turn it into an American device, but to be honest, there have been no problems and only benefits.

I have not rooted, I don't need to unless I decide to go for a pirate / cooked rom.

Done that many time on my SGSII so am no novice to it.

The leaked ICS 4.04 is faster than 4.03. I too found that sluggish on my SGSII.

Been toying with doing mine for weeks, but every guide I tried looked a lot of faffing about...
the one in that link seemed simple enough, so just did mine...
ran thru all the ots updates and now on ICS..
Just gotta redown all my installed apps now...

GEDified on my Xoom about 6 weeks ago. Have never looked back. It was like getting a brand new tablet. ICS is so much faster and slick to use. And everything still works in UK mode. It was also very easy and quick to do. Just read the instructions very clearly.

You could also try this. All very simple and well worth it.

Thanks for the replies to my initial query. Having looked it up and found out what it means, I am now interested in GEDifying my Xoom.

I found the original guide by following Magic Cottage's link. Simon says that the Xoom will be reset and all personal data will be lost.

So I backed up the internal drive to my PC via the USB link, as explained on Motorola's support site. That was step 1. Step 2 was to go to Settings / Privacy and check "Back up my data" and "Automatic restore". These were already checked. Is this all I need to do? When I have completed the GEDify process, do I just restore all the backed up data to return to the status quo? Won't that overwrite some of the stuff I have updated when GEDifying?

Will my email settings (not Gmail - I just use ordinary mail with my main email account) be restored too?

Thanks for any further help.

What are you backing up? Can it not just be saved to a memory card?

You will lose all your apps etc, but these can be downloaded again. If you don't have a memory card, back up to Google Drive or Sky drive.

The beauty off Gmail is that it's just a username and password to reinstate your calender, contacts and emails.

I too was dead against GEDifying my xoom, in favour of waiting for the Motorola. Glad I did, ICS is brilliant.

I've used both sets of instructions (the one you linked to and and those on Xoom forum). Never done this before, but didn't have a problem at all.

The Simonjstuart instructions are far easier to follow. The only difference I found between the two was that the simonjstuart one didn't have the regional settings on. I just downloades Locale Select from play store. This gives you back the regional settings for UK English keyboard etc.

What's the difference between saving to a memory card (I assume you mean the Micro SD card) and saving to a folder on my PC?

Ok, but what about all the local data associated with apps? Say for example it's a game - progress is stored in a local data file. What happens to that? I've not heard of Google Drive or Sky Drive, but I shall look them up.

The beauty off Gmail is that it's just a username and password to reinstate your calender, contacts and emails.
Gmail is useless for me, because unlike any other email client (like Thunderbird on PC for example) I cannot set up my proper email account - it has to be a Gmail or Googlemail account. The default email client on the Xoom allows me to set up my email account, but that is only used for reading and sending emails when my main PC is off, and all my emails are stored on my PC in any case. So I don't care about preserving mail on the Xoom.

Yes, I want to do this too, but only if I can back up and restore my data.

Surprised about that, because I thought he was UK based. Other people haven't flagged that as a problem.

You can wait and wait for something that may never come
or
You can go out an get a ICS or JB rom from XDA with good user feedback. I have been using Rom of Jelly Bean 4.1.1 on by Samsung tab 8.9 for 3 days and is fab. The only down is no camera, but never used it anyway.

By doing what Cribology suggested. I regard losing the camera as crippling it (as I assume would anybody). Also I presume he means opening it up to replace a ROM, which is the last thing I am going to do.

I will be happy to go along with Simon Stuart once I have assured myself I can restore the local data to my existing apps.

Galaxy Tab 10.1 users are also still without ICS. It is more than likely coming in August but it should have been sooner.

There are plenty of ROMS available but there is little to no point flashing now because it is here anytime soon and I would loose my current configuration (Task ROM+ Go Launcher).

If there was a 10" Nexus I would get it in a flash.

Personally I never use the camera on the tablet I had...he means flashing the existing ROM not physically removing it.

When/if you get an official update the ROM will be flashed.

Before I go along with Simon Stuart, let me explain.

I have a couple of games/apps I want to back up my local data (i.e. progress). It may sound trivial, but I have Angry Birds (various versions) and Open Sudoku for a couple of examples. If I update my Xoom, how do I restore my local data so I don't lose my progress? I can't see where this stuff is stored so I can back it up and restore it.

Looking at Open Sudoku source, I see it uses SQLite, which is embedded in the Android OS, but I can't see where the database is stored.

I did my Xoom over the weekend by following Simon Stuart's instructions and I'm really happy with the result, it was easier than I thought too!!

Didn't mind having it completely reset as the only unrecoverable stuff was on the SD card.

Excellent. I think this is the way most Xoom owners will go in the end as, frankly, I don't think there will be any OTA updates outside of the US.

Jelly Bean started to roll out for soak testing yesterday. So, it will soon be available for the Xoom, so why would they now put out ICS?
