ES File Explorer doesn't do it either. After reading user reviews of ES File Explorer, I found Andexplorer which does work. (choose sdcard0 or sdcard1)

Incidentally, I have images on my SD card, and the image browser works just fine, so it's a limitation of Astro and ES,

Es explorer does work if you press the home or the top left icon then storage. It also shows the images.I have Andexplorer but like the graphics on ES.
Edit : you might have to tick "show hidden files" in the ES settings.

If you mean showing the folders as graphics rather than lists I am just the opposite!

It really annoys me when in Windows Explorer the contents of a folder come up with icons instead of a detailed list. I want information, not pretty pictures.

Yes but as in windows and in ES you can change to whatever suits you.

yes its mounted ok, and the actual storage screen in settings shows me the card and how much is free etc, and i can drag and drop to it from pc when connected, but browsing with astro wont let me view external storage says path not available...
i will try anther file manager then..
thanks.

Yes, my UK Xoom just updated to 4.04.
A few cosmetic differences (and sounds ), but the only thing I'm interested in is, will the browser work faster and smoother?

mine updated last night - seems quite a bit faster (looks better too) but that could just be the reboot!

Jelly Bean by Xmas - whats the odds?

Why? Surely now there is no difference and anyway, if you are GEDified you can now update to JB. Even better.

I already have Jelly Bean, but if I hadn't been so impatient for the update from Honeycomb, I (a) wouldn't have invalidated my warranty and (b) would still have a UK version rather than a US version.

Not sure that the difference from ICS to JB was worth losing those things.

Edit: Just read GG's post - probably not worth the hassle of undoing it
