Google Chrome, falling over
After years of using Firefox, I'm testing out Google Chrome, and it's a mixed bag. On the plus side, it looks good, loads fast and has nice add-ons.
The big problem, for me at least, is that every time I close the program down, if I then start it back up in the usual manner, it will not load properly. What always happens is that Chrome hangs the system, and I have no choice but to reboot. Obviously not good. This is under Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, with all the latest updates and drivers in tip top condition. Has anyone else had this issue? |

Try fully uninstalling and then reinstalling, if you have Stnc enables all your settings/Extensions/Favourites should be preserved.
I use Chrome dev version and it is OK with shutting down and starting up. |

I feel sure that there is something silly going on, or a minor change that I can make, once I happen across someone else in the same boat. BTW, just found this, and am investigating. http://dalehyde.hubpages.com/hub/Goo...s-In-Windows-7 |

Have you tried disabling all the extensions?

No, because firstly there aren't very many, and secondly if I can't add stuff as easily as it works with Firefox, then I won't be keeping it.
The article I just found says - 'In the Google forums, the responses are such as "we are aware of the problem....", "we are attempting resolution...", etc.' |

You could try the dev version (v22): https://www.google.com/chrome/eula.h...tra=devchannel

Posting this with Firefox, mainly to say that the fix I'd found earlier does bugger-all on my system. Opening Chrome, then closing it obviously sets up some kind of major pain in the arse. If Chrome is opened again during the same boot, it hangs the machine, requiring a hard reboot. Considering that Chrome is being foisted upon the world attached to every other download, requiring users to actively de-tick to stop it being installed, this is REALLY POOR PRODUCT.

Not sure if they will work as they use the same code as chrome, but you try Comodo dragon or SRWare iron. i used both and have at the moment got Iron on my system, works fine here.
sometimes you can get software that will work fine with every other computer and for some reason will not work on yours. |

Yes, I agree. Been in this game for a very long time, and can usually get the better of any software hardware issue. But this one has been rather vexatious. |

Thanks for the suggestion. I routinely change the load page/ home page to one of my own devising. All I have with Chrome, aside from that file, is its also set to load up Google search. So it should not present the program with any great strain!

Ah, right. I was rather hoping you;d say it's a home system, just for light stuff.
So far, tried installing Commodo Dragon, which hung the system before completing its first load. Since then have found that both Commodo Dragon and Chrome will launch once, then if shut down, will hang system upon second launch, every time without fail. Curiously, I can load and close Firefox as many times as I wish with no problem. Will no try coolnovo, as suggested, here, then try all of the above on a 32-bit Win 7 system, just to see if the 64-bit problem is replicated. |

Okay, just tried CoolNovo version on a laptop running Windows XP Pro, and on a tower system running Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit. Both worked flawlessly.
So, I'm thinking this is either a 64-bit problem - anyone looking up this kind of thing will know it is not the first time - or there's some small corruption with my installation, that I can sort with an Instal Repair... maybe. Definitely not virus or nasty based. Have swept with Avast and MalwareBytes. |

I shall undertake repairs, and hope for the best. Just not yet, as I have stuff to do before messing with my main work system. The rest of which seems fine. |

FYI, I've just reinstalled Chrome Stable (20.0.1132.57 m) after having site compatibility issues with the dev version and it is still working with no issues on W7x64.
