Things that gaming has taught us...

Just posted in the thread about this in the thread where the kid spending over £1000 on MS Points but i thought it deserved it's own thread

Let's try and make a list of things that gaming has taught us in real life

Such as the historical figures that uncharted and Assassin's Creed have taught us about or the Greek Mythos that god of war covered etc, of course some of historical elements are made up but it still gives up a starting point to learn more about these people if we choose to

So what have you learned about the real world from gaming

I don't think gaming has taught me anything of value, or has increased my knowledge of life, history or anything of a factual nature. Indeed if gaming has taught me anything, it is not to spend so much time playing games, time gos so fast when playing games, half a day can pass you by, it has often left me feeling depressed that I spent that much time doing nothing, effectively.

I spend less time on gaming and more on watching a dvd now, with the family or mates, at least then I get to have some interaction with other people.

I'm a gamer so I'm not knocking anything you've learned from playing games, but my opinion is gaming is predominantly a negative pass time.

Through countless hours of on-line simracing (rfactor, iracing, GTR, Live for speed) i learned just how tough it is win a competitive race (especially when competing in dedicated leagues). It's not easy banging in fast lap after fast lap without making a mistake, all while being put under pressure by your competitors. As a result i now hold F1 drivers in the highest regard (almost achieving god-like status)

Other than that gaming is a complete waste of time. So many regrets!

That time doesn't actually stop when you enter a house or shop (thanks for that, Harvest Moon).

I've learned that you learn nothing valuable from games and that when you think something is true, research it because games, as with movies and tv shows, spin the truth.

I've learned that magic and dragons really does exist, that you cant stop over 6 inch high obstacles (you have to jump)...but you can walk down almost vertical inclines of thousands of feet . Ive learned that wearing a ring can give you all sorts of magical powers....and that law enforcement officials are universally mean, grumpy, racist and talk to you like you are scum.
Oh..and when you die, you dont, you get resurrected to a time shortly before you died.
.....and you never need to wash or go to the loo.

The GTA series taught me that you can drive around like a loon in a high powered sports car without ever stopping for fuel or a Ginsters peppered steak slice and a can of relentless.

I've learned that if life was like games, you could simply respawn and carry on as though nothing happened.

That average young men from normal lives can become legendary heroes of destiny in a matter of days.

Mario Tennis and Golf taught me how golf and tennis was played/won.

Theres more interaction playing games with someone than watching DVD's.

I personally think gaming has taught me/improved my hand-eye co-ordination.

When you set up a sniper nest be sure to plant some claymores at every access point.

Knees have an uncanny ability to attract arrows.

I'm pretty sure I learnt what verbs and nouns were from The Hobbit. Definitely learnt the directions of the compass from Espionage Island. First heard of Leatherhead in Sherlock.

But I learnt a lot more from Doctor Who. Re-reading the comics from Doctor Who Weekly I can point to words and say, that's the first time I ever read that word (e.g. 'epicentre').
