Coconut, bounty bar, choc ice...
Rio Ferdinand knows exactly what they mean. He's insulting our intelligence with the nonsense excuses he's made. |

I'm starting to question whether you've read it. And yes, 18 pages is too much to read to check if someone's already answered your innocuous question for fear of it being moaned at and having the stupid ![]() ![]() thrown around.

If this is perceived to be racism by some people, and many have explained their reasons, then it is. You disagree, thats all. |

I'm not familiar with "the coconut case", so I can't answer that. it's irrelevant though, because I've already said a million times that these terms can be misappropriated as racist insults if I find your constant badgering racist, and I state my reasons, does it make it racist? it's a rather silly thing to claim |

If you consider being questioned about your very strong views to be badgering, I would question why you participate on a forum. You are aggressive towards those you disagree with, but dont seem to see this. |

you've not answered the question. why's that then?
you claim anything to be perceived as racist automatically becomes racist, and you're clinging grimly to this McPherson defence, yet it relates to the reporting and investigation of such offences. the accusations themselves don't just become true because they're perceived to be. I'm pretty sure you know this too, but you're pretending not to be able to see the difference. I wonder why that is? there's nothing even remotely aggressive about my responses |

You've seen the McPherson definition. If you were to claim I'm "badgering" you because you're black, someone would record that, and investigate me. That is how wide it is. Acting on such a report is a different matter. There still has to be evidence of an offence first. This was where the Terry case fell down. They couldn't prove the offence, so the racist language cant be used alone. |

so do we agree it would be a "racist incident" ie an investigation into an allegation of racism, and not necessarily that you are being racist?

I have said all along that a racist incident does not mean a person is a racist, even if found guilty. I think we are actually saying the same thing here, but coming from different directions, and that may be because it is a proven fact that we are incapable of agreeing about anything. |

This week I asked several of my black friends if the term was racist. They all said it wasn't. I'd like to hear what black forum members feel about this. I think Pee has explained the meaning and context of the term very well.

As is it seems to be a term used by black people you could say, "they would say that wouldn't they".

When i was boy i heard a lot of racial expressions from older people, there was one in particular people aimed at other whites, an insult for not doing the decent thing. I wont be dramatic and say i was offended or upset but i always thought it sounded unfair.
I doubt if the people who used this sort of language gave it a second thought, not even connecting what they said to racism. as far as they were concerned, they were just making a point, i imagine anyone objecting to this language ( this never happened) would have been given a hard time, nit picking and just looking for an argument would have been the nicest response. today people are more educated and see things more differently so there are far less excuses,, Maybe some believe the same argument that would be of been used all those years ago.when i was a boy ,.expression .slang. maybe it's the same familiarity i don't know but i also believe like a lot of the racists years ago there are some who know exactly what the term means and it has not been diluted by familiarity. |

I'd ditch all smilies if I was/when I am prime minister. If you can't convey it with words, you're not doing it with shitty pacmen.
