Lol.

Perhaps enabling sub-titles would help those having difficulty.

The scheduling is RIDICULOUS. Who commissioned a show that needed to be truncated into such an oppressive timeframe?! For a start, I can't commit 90 minutes of my life every night. But it also doesn't give us any time to get to know the contestants.

And crucially, we have no way of knowing whether they'll be good at acting, dancing, etc. The Beeb series' gave the contestants challenges each week. We were voting Dorothys, Nancys and Josephs on their all-round ability, not just as singers. This show, potentially, could put a right duffer on a stage.

I miss the campness and humour (thank god for Dawn French), I miss the challenges, I miss rooting for someone I actually want to see in the role, I miss making space for it every Saturday night.

This is my favourite musical of all time, and I've been waiting yonks for this series. So am gutted they've screwed up the format so badly. AND to add insult to injury, they've saddled the show with Mel C as Mary, who's a perfectly competent judge and seems a nice girl, but whose singing voice is really ugly to my ears. And Chris Moyles?? WTF?!

So yeah, they've gone down the Cabaret and Joseph route with the 'cast a celebrity' instead of a musical star (and I do know Mel C was in Blood Brothers but stil...). Now knowing we might get a Jesus who can't act, really makes me reluctant to buy a ticket. At least until the reviews are in.
Agree (mostly)

Ironically the original Jesus, Ian Gillan was already committed to touring with Deep Purple or he would have done the show. Not really known for his acting though.

ALW etc. seem to have forgotten it is a Rock Opera & are looking for a bog standard musical singer who can act a bit.

Most annoying though is two songs then an ad break, absolutely dreadful and just makes everything stutter.

Interesting blog from The Stage analysing where Superstar went wrong:

http://blogs.thestage.co.uk/tvtoday/...-again-please/

It makes a lot of valid points but I think the main problem - and the reason for disappointing viewing figures - has been poor scheduling. The summer slot coupled with live shows on consecutive nights unfortunately didn't allow viewers' interest to build up as it should. Still, the final did manage over 3 million viewers so it could have been worse! It'll be interesting to see if ITV ever commission another TV casting show - possibly not.

Thoroughly agreed with everything this guy's blog said.

How did they get it all so wrong ? I have enjoyed all ALW's other shows, and moving it to ITV has just given us a dumbed down version of what was a good format.

No one comes out of this looking particularly good.

Is the usual problem I think.

Thats a good idea. Lets do that. On dear when can we do it? Lets cram it in there. What do we do with all these top people turning up, we want a SuBo? Comedienne - check. Bloke from Strictly Come Dancing - check. Presenter - whoops none available. Whats this rock star guy with the rock star persona doing here.Oh dear, surely there's someone here with some experience who can really act? OK give Ben Queen - that should do it.

I doubt this will be coming back as ratings never got above 3 million and struggled around 2.5 million for most of the series. It joins a long list of ITV reality flops that will probably be thrown in a skip by now.

If they do another series, it needs to be on in a better part of the year (putting something like this on in Summer was always going to be a bad idea). It also needs to go back to the weekly episode format. Also, you don't cast a role for a more experienced performer unless you're willing to put experienced performers through to the live shows and have a final 10 who are all suited to the role.
