Struggling with Dead Island

Hi all, I really really want to like this game but I am struggling with it.

I just keep dying! I have some gripes with the game that I thought some of you may be able to help me with -

You always have a main mission, and then loads of side missions. I am guessing that the side missions are mainly to rank up and earn money. Am I doing the right thing in doing all the available side missions first before starting the latest main mission? Surely the game would be incredibly long by doing this?

I am using the ripper as my main weapon, which is fine, and I am slowly creating new weapons like the nail bat. However, I have so many items in my inventory that I'm too scared to sell incase I need one of the items for a new weapon - what does everyone do with their inventory, is there a nack to it?

Health is another issue. If I die, I start again with a long bar of health, but I can never seem to get it that long again after being hit. I can take health drinks but health is still not as long as the bar is when I am revived.

I do seem to die a lot. And never seem to have much money because I keep repairing my ripper!

Maybe someone can change my opinion. Thanks.

1st point . I chopped and changed my missions . Did one main mission then a side mission and so on. However there is a mission in chapter 14 (Purest Evil) which , unless you have the GOTY edition has a bad save glitch . So my advice is save a couple of missions before doing this one , and then fast travel to it and you usually pick up molokov cocktails , which you can use for the escort mission (should make it easier).

Point 2- . Basically I checked what level my weapons were , for example if I had a level 30 weapon and I wanted to pick up a higer level one , I would discard the level 30 and pick up the 34.
Hope that all helps, and is not too confusing.

Arrgggh It's so frustrating.

Played for 2 hours tonight. I get a quest, select the quest from the menu, and no way point appears? I have to manually search for it on the map and pinpoint it. It's annoying. Soem quests don't even appear on the map when you select them.

Another annoying thing is that your weapons become so blunt that you struggle to kill the hoards of zombies, and then you just die.

Maybe I'm missing something here. Maybe I'm too lazy for this game?

You need to use the resources you find to beef up your weapons.

Yeah, you can upgrade them with money which I've done.

It's the hwole map thing that's pissing me off. It should automatically give you a waypoint when you select a side mission. Some side missions are available, but don't even appear on the map.

I really want to like it and I just can't be excited about playing it at the mo.

Another issue was when I went and spoke to James, apparently I have to find a way into the lighthouse basement - this doesn't appear on my list of quests and it's no where to be seen.

Maybe I'm just not getting the game.

Hi

What character are you playing? This will change the way you play. People have an easier time playing with Purna and Logan, Purna with her gun and Logan because you can throw items with a chance to come back to you.

With the james quest what are you needing to do as there is no basement. If you on about the power for the light house it actually out side the light house and more near the apartments near the crashed ambulance, if you done that you just need to speak with the guy on the left in the bottom of the light house to let you into the room and then you can collect a radio in the workbench room.

Without giving any of the game away for you.

There are a few side missions that ,though appearing on the menu, are not available to tackle until certain areas / tasks of the game are complete.

A prime example being very early on in the game you are given objectives in the jungle area of the game, especially around the crash site but you must complete the city map before reaching these areas. To my memory there at least three missions that appear like this.

Stick with it and you will find the game extremely rewarding, this has been my favourite game within the last 12 months easily.

Thanks, I'll try. Just wish they'd make the missions a bit more easier to understand that you can't do them yet, the same with the waypoint system.

I played it when it came out but i never found a way point problem. In fact i found it too easy with it, just follow the path blindly that it gives you.

I'm stuck on the village fight (on chapter 14 Pure Evil)./ Where you fight off the zombies with the dreadlocked guy in the village. There is a Floater , a Thug and about 3 other zombies and I am getting my ass kicked . I'm not online with my PS3 (Bad signal) so thats not an option for me. Also I have no missions outstanding meaning I cant look for deo- bombs etc , so any help would be appriciated thanks
