Sky are going to give everyone who joins up a 30 day free trial to Now tv.

Lovefilm 1 disk at a time, unlimited monthly rental with unlimited streaming was reduced to £7.99 when Netflix launched. They are very quick with their postal service and it is easy to get 3 blu rays or dvds a week if you watch and post back straight away.

There was that other IPTV firm Sky took over - can't remember but the client is on current LG TVs (like mine). Is this client being re-engineered?

Just had a look at it not worth the £15p/m other options are available for half that price from other companies.
No doubt though it will improve in time so will keep an eye on it.

Does anybody have the NowTV OnDemand player on their Yourview box yet?

£15 a month!! I've got Lovefilm and Netflix for less than that.
Plus you can't watch it on a games console or Smart TV yet.

The price is more probably because they live stream the movie channels, but what is the point if they offer the films on demand?

I'll be giving this a miss until they drop the price in line with its competition then I might give it a go. But good luck Sky in trying to out do Netflix and Lovefilm with that price!

I don't think they do. I think it just gives you the option of watching on demand whatever films are on the Sky Movies channels at that time.

A pale, expensive imitation of Netflix so far, with a tiny selection of films and awful picture quality.

Having said that, it'll probably seem better once you start getting that burst of new films every Friday, and it's cheaper than getting Sky Movies on cable, I think, so there's a good chance of us cancelling those to watch this instead, once it's on Xbox.

Just logged into it using my Sky details. For the movie pass, you have to give new payment details and that triggers your 30 day pass. Seems that Sky subscribers can't set up Now TV directly in their account details using existing payment types. They ought to look at it as there will be those who may have second homes or travel a lot, who might find Now TV useful, especially as Sky Go is so restrictive with devices.

Do they take payment when you sign up?

Signed up for the free trial only out of curiosity. Rest assured I will be cancelling before the end.

The website is misleading. For example, on the live TV page it clearly states you can watch Pretty Woman now on Sky Movies Modern Greats. However, when you try to watch it, it comes up with some message about it being unavailable due to rights restrictions. Not that I particularly wanted to watch this movie, but still. How on earth do they get away with stuff like this?

I will stick to Netflix thank you with its far superior streaming quality and excellent value. I hope they eventually outbid Sky for some of these film rights.

Not for the monthly movie pass. It's the usual thing - as long as you drop the service before renewal date after the trial, you don't pay anything.

They don't have streaming rights for a lot of the tv progs, movies and sports that they broadcast by satellite. Reason is either they bought the general rights before they knew they were going to set up Now TV and would have to pay extra, or I guess someone else has them exclusively. Always going to be an issue for broadcasters

Anyone browsing the Live TV page would think if they signed up and handed over the £15 they would be able to watch Pretty Woman and titles like it, but that isn't always the case.

It's probably buried in the FAQ somewhere but the website is so unprofessional there isn't even a proper page for that and instead it's done via the forums.

I personally thing this is a great offer if you want recent movies.
Comparing this offer to Netflix or Lovefilm isn't really possible, Sky Movies (and Sky Now) offers real recent movies that you won't see on Netflix or Lovefilm before few months, even years for some titles.

If you're not looking for tv shows, this offer is the best on the market right now. And I'm sure Freesat customers will be very pleased with it.

If you're looking for tv shows, then Netflix & Lovefilm is the best option, but you're whiling to have more older movies.

So basically, when I read people saying this offer is everything but good, well, I wanna say "shut up and try to know what you're talking about". I would also add, we are not all looking for the same thing. Some people are happy with Freesat, others couldn't do without Sky. Some don't like on demand service, and others (like me) just love their Netflix subscription (US in my case).

This offer will satisfy a lot of people, others won't care, that doesn't make it a bad offer.

The game is changing. Once Sky was all about subscriptions, satellite dishes, base packages and premium content. The advent of IPTV, Sky Sports on DTT, Netflix and Youview seem to have forced Sky's hand in getting involved here (or miss the boat completely). Great news for the consumer - offering more choice.

I think you ought to take some of your own advice and keep em buttened. You fail completely to mention Btvision for films and tv shows as well as xbox & ps3 for films. All of which have been running for years and have the same films that Sky are offering.

Not with a sunsciotion though. Pay as you go yeah not all you can watch though.

I think this looks like a great service and when this comes to PS3 and streams in HD, I will definitely be getting it and cancelling Netflix and LoveFilm, both which are just laughable in their current states, as Sky have all the good rights.

Netflix is far from laughable for TV content. There's so much on there that I want to watch, I'll never be stuck for something to entertain me of an evening.

Film wise yes it's quite poor, but there's not much they can do about that when Sky have already hoovered up all the good rights.

Remember that Now TV (and Sky Movies) has subscription access to movie content in the first Pay-TV window - meaning that such content appears around 12 months before the second-window services (mainly Lovefilm and Netflix) get their hands on them.

As such, there was no way that Now TV's movie package was never going to be as cheap as Lovefilm/Netflix - anyone hoping for that are just kidding themselves. From Sky's point of view, that would like Turkeys voting for Xmas - if all the movies were available for £6 per month via a decent (and bundled) broadband connection, who would sign up at least £15 to watch the Sky Movie channels?

Now TV's target isn't Lovefilm or Netflix - its the millions of non Pay-TV customers who want to watch recently released movies without signing up for a 12-18 month Pay-TV contract. Imagine having a YouView box and being available to treat the wife and kids to loads of recent movies for Xmas?

And yes - the website is bloody awful.
