Oh I agree with the TV content, but I signed up to LoveFilm for films, and I actually thought Netflix would have done some better film studio deals before moving here. Even there US version is pretty poor now, only the Canadian one looks good.

The Canadian one is much better similar content to sky now, expect half the price.

You're obviously in the group of people I was talking about... Know what you're talking about! You obviously don't...

The services you mention offer Pay Per View, they don't offer a £15 monthly plan with unlimited access.

@packages; the US Netflix is the best for TV shows, but the Canadian version is better for movies even if some shows like Damages has 4 seasons on the Canadian NF and only 3 on US NF.

@Joel's dad: I saw that a week ago, I'm actually thinking about canceling my Sky Movies subscription if Netflix CA continues to add the same movies that Sky.

I think this looks like a great service and when this comes to PS3 and streams in HD, I will definitely be getting it and cancelling Netflix and LoveFilm, both which are just laughable in their current states, as Sky have all the good rights.”

I never claimed that they did. But the poster I was quoting claimed to know it all but missed out some important services.

I think £15 is a tad too expensive, £10 would just about do it, given the higher quality of content.

If it was £15 for Movies and Sports, when it becomes available, then I'd say it was a bargain, but that's not going to happen.

Im trying to sign up for a 30 day free trial but it won't let me as it seems to want to deduct £15 from my account now...

...how's that 'free' ?

Most likely just a verification thing you'll get the £15 back in between 3 days - 10 days dependant on your bank/card issuer. Quite a few companies do it. Boomerang did it to me just to verify me.

As such, there was no way that Now TV's movie package was never going to be as cheap as Lovefilm/Netflix - anyone hoping for that are just kidding themselves. From Sky's point of view, that would like Turkeys voting for Xmas - if all the movies were available for £6 per month via a decent (and bundled) broadband connection, who would sign up at least £15 to watch the Sky Movie channels?

Now TV's target isn't Lovefilm or Netflix - its the millions of non Pay-TV customers who want to watch recently released movies without signing up for a 12-18 month Pay-TV contract. Imagine having a YouView box and being available to treat the wife and kids to loads of recent movies for Xmas?

And yes - the website is bloody awful. ”

Who would indeed? That's the issue that Sky isn't addressing. We're rapidly moving away from the expensive satelite only options of the past. Those revenue models are history. Sky doesn't seem to want to let go, much like DirectTV in the US.

Verification should never be £15... that's ridiculous.

This seems to happen a lot these days as when I book rail tickets on some rail sites it takes 2x the sum and 1 just sits on bank account for 7 days then goes back in so I can use it.

It's a pain when it happens as you feel they are taking more then they should but it will go back onto your bank account within a few days.

But why do they need to deduct anything. I'm not obliged to pay for owt at the end of it. It's not as if they're giving anything to me on credit or they'll lose anything financially if I don't sign up at the end. It's a free trial. You don't walk into the supermarket, see a display of 'Free Samples' and then get told when you pick one up "That's £3.99 please. It's okay we just wanted to check you had enough money to pay for it if we had charged you"

....I disapprove.

I assume that they do this to deter people signing-up under different email accounts and names. The £15 verification does sound excessive though, maybe they'll change it if this is a beta version.

I can assure you that you won't be charged, just a verification (I subscribed yesterday)

Sky don't need to address anything.

They wouldn't be spending money on buying 1st window Pay-TV movie content, and then selling that content for at least £15 per month, if the demand and profits weren't there. It clearly is and has been for years, hence the presence of the Sky Movies TV channels.

Why should they 'let go' of profits made selling content distributed by DSAT?

Now TV is just another way of distributing that content and another way to make money from it. Either way its win-win for Sky.

The whole thing appears a bit......rushed? Like the picture of the Samsung phone on the site which currently doesn't support the service, or the blank screen issues when playing back movies, or the lack of current support for the game consoles which are far more likely to be connected to the big TV than any other household device.

I'm sure it will improve....it has too. I for one am eager to learn what prices will be charged for PPV EPL footy, that could be a real game-changer for watching football.

As I've said previously, Skys hand has been forced by the success of netflix and the arrival of IPTV (BT Vision and Youview). Skys business model has always been about satellite subscription so Now TV is somewhat alien terrority to them - they may have missed the boat here.

I'm not convinced by PPV sport - most hardcore sports fans want everything (i.e SS and ESPN). PPV might work for big matches like the final day of last season but it is likely to work out costly for customers to be paying PPV prices every week. Having the entire sports channels through other operators would work out cheaper in the long run.

I think there's loads of footy fans who would love to watch just the games involving their teams, they wouldn't be buying a game every week.

If they did wish to, they can (or will have) the option to subscribe to the Sky Sports Channels:
http://www.v-net.tv/bskyb-outlines-i...gy-for-now-tv/
Quote:
“Sports will be added to the platform this year, with all the Sky Sports channels streamed live to the various devices supporting NOW TV (as a subscription option). The Sky-owned general entertainment channels Sky 1, Sky Atlantic, Sky Arts and Sky Living will follow but the company says it is too early to say whether it will include other channel partners.”

How, I keep going through it and it says 'card cannot be authorised'

Do you have to put a voucher-code in or something?
