I can not see Scotlands coefficient UEFA ranking for champions league and Europa League purposes improving at any point in the near future.
Rangers and then The Rangers having a 3 year ban will let other clubs into Europe, but outside the Old Firm Scottish club in recent years in Europe have been really poor. Certainly for the last 5 years in which the rankings are worked out.
This season is the final season in which Scotland has 2 champions league places. Next seasons competition will only have the champions of this seasons league in the competition, i.e. the runner up will be in the UEFA Europa League.
This season Scotland also has 5 places, but from next season onwards it will only be 4. Further more the cup winners, will start a round earlier in the 3rd qualifying round, (rather than the playoff round) and the runners up and 3rd place will only start in the 2nd qualifying round.
In the champions league the champions of Scotland from next season onwards will start in the 2nd qualifying round, the same stage as the champions of Wales and Ireland.
Scotlands only hope is to hope that Celtic have a decent performance in qualifying for this years champions league and get to the group stage, as the bonus points for reaching just the group stage are high.
I can not see Motherwell doing anything in the champions league.
