Who would you axe in Corrie?
Corrie still has some characters that don't work for me -
I would definitely axe the following- Sean, Maria, Kirk, Jason, Eva, Upgrade Aiden to a cast regular and bring back Claudia. |

I'd give Bill and Pam a proper exit. I'd have their wedding create massive drama leading to Bill dying days before it and Pam leaving devastated. I'd recast Sophie Webster.
Dev, Sunita and the kids would leave. Kirk Sutherland, Fiz Brown, Ches Brown, Sean Tully, Mary Taylor, Matt Carter, Paul Kershaw, Stella Price and Karl Munro would all depart the street. |

Sean & Kirk are the only ones that would have to go, everyone else is fine. I'd recast Faye however.

I do disagree with Jason. As pointless as he appears to be, Ryan Thomas has the acting chops to make the character interesting if they gave him some decent material. So I think he should get a story first to give him a chance. Plus Eileen might struggle without him.
Disagree with Gary and Izzy, they are normal regular people played by two fantastic actors. |

My axe list isn't half as long as it would've been a few years back (though it's getting longer the more thought I give it!):

Brian
Kirk
Chesney
Lloyd
Karl
Sunita
|

I strongly agree with the BIB - their status as characters needs to be confirmed once and for all. I'd have them both die.

I disagree with many of these choices. I really like Maria as a character. I also think that Jason is a good character and his relationship with him Mum is very good. There is no character at present that I don't like but I have to say Leanne annoys me as regards her relationship with Peter - but Jane Danson is an excellent actress. I agree that Bill has been treated very badly - a good character and an excellent actor. I do think that some of the actors could be given more to do - and some less. The workload could be more evenly distributed. However the fact is that we all have our favourite and less favourite characters.

I would axe Dev, Sunita, Aadi and Asha Alahan has I believe the Sunita and Karl affair has ruined Sunita. Dev isn't strong as a character, he feels very OTT.
Given the torment she went through at the hands of Mad Maya you think she'd be more careful when it comes to being the other woman! Sean Tully would be another character I'd swing the axe for... I feel he's served whatever purpose he had a long time ago and is merely there as the 'token' gay. I'd also remove Karl Munro as realistically Stella has taken him back too many times... seeing as she makes out she's not someone to be crossed it seems too far fetched she'd keep taking Karl back. As above it's also ruined Karl by having an affair with Sunita. Tracy Barlow also needs to bid farewell. She's generally well hated by a lot of the Street's residents and even her own step father has to keep telling Tracy that she's over-stepped the mark.I try and like Tracy and hope the acting will improve.. it just doesn't work (sorry Kate!) |

Sean obvious choice but I don't see what purpose his role is on the show his just playing himself.
Michelle again out stayed her welcome, she just Carla side kick nobody really missed her when she wasn't on the show, she not had any storylines in yonks and fine they might be trying to spice things up with her son returning but there already enough female characters to fill her spot it wouldn't be a huge lost. Fizz should of been axed after the John Stape storyline, she has run her course. Gail is there anything left for her now she hasn't had a decent storyline in two years other then fawning after her sons. Maria and Kirk you see I use to like Maria but she been so underused and if they can't give them decent material then give them a good exit instead. Bill and Pam I think are just recurring characters sometimes they are open ended they serve a simple purpose when needed I don't think that's a huge deal and not necessary to axe them completely. |

I agree about Dev but the actor has been with the show since 1999 so it may not happen, Sunita could be a better character without Dev by her side.
I think Maria and Kirk shouid have been axed long ago, they are deadwood characters. I like Fiz but would bring back Cilla to upset the apple cart with her and Chesney. Sean and Jason are two characters who are played by actors who are realistically playing themselves but Anthony Cotton has a massive ego and is loved on the street set apparently. As a gay male viewer I would prefer to have Marcus and Aiden as a couple. and yes Bill and Pam need some sort of closure. I would love to see Margi Clarke back for a stint as Jackie Dobbs as I would love to see her interact with Kirsty. |

I wouldn't want people like Jason, Eileen or Maria to leave, for one reason they've been on the programme 13 years now and are pretty much part of furniture but mainly because they are fairly ordinary people.
I would axe: Mary. Her appeal stopped in 2009, seriously this woman isn't even funny and realistically should be getting treatment for her blatant psychological disorder. Chesney. Cast your minds back to 2004 when Ches was "cute" and everyone loved him. I hated him then, I still hate him now. I'm willing to give characters chances and I'm open to change my opinion, lord knows I couldn't stand Gary Windass for his first year. But the fact that in 8 years I still hate this character as much as I did back then must say something. Also, he's batting so out of his league with Katy it's laughable Paul. Have we even seen him since the storyline with Eileen ended? Terrible character, which is a shame because I liked him as Mike Barnes in Hollyoaks. He's dragged Eileen down but she's bounced back up these past few weeks being on-screen without him and his misery, I know Lesley's dead but when he pops up again he'll still be bloody miserable Peter. Controversial maybe but I cannot stand this man. Just a vile, loathsome, self centered, drunken moron who can never accept or even acknowledge that his actions are wrong. He blames Ken, Deirdre, Leanne, Nick even Carla and on occasion his own son for his problems that 99.9% of the time are self inflicted. Everything has to be his way, what he wants. Don't get me wrong Chris Gascoyne's a brilliant actor it's just a shame he has to play such a vile twit. He plays it well though Simon. Eugh, this kid. I hate kids that I'm meant to find cute and hilarious. He's been shoved down our throats for the past four years and though he was alright at the beggining, like Tiff on EE, he's too old now to be cute and just comes across as rude. I always remember liking Josh Peacock who was given very little a lot more than I ever did this curly devil Sunita and Karl. Just send them on their way, Karl I never really took to but Sunita was a firm favourite of mine a year ago but she's been completely ruined. A Mad Maya return to finish her off once and for all would be just what Corrie needs Sophie. Stop whining woman. This girl has been insufferable since she started her lesbian love affair with Sian, who I did actually rate above Sophie as a character and actress. I know she's pretty much safe being the daughter of two Corrie legends but jeez lighten her up or get rid she always has a scowl on her face Faye. Horrible child, I'm surprised she's not the one bullying people to be honest. I get the feeling this storyline is meant to drump up sympathy for this hateful child but it just doesn't wash with me. I'll never forgive her for Owen's fish ![]() I wouldn't axe them but I would reduce the amount of screen-time that Tina, Carla and Sean get. I'd much rather learn more about newer characters like Tommy, Eva and Marcus. There's a lot I want to know about Tommy in particular |

I'd axe Bill and Pam for good.
Jason has run his course too. CS has too many characters with no use |

Stella Price and Karl Munro. Easy first choices. Karl will be on borrowed time when Stella finds out about his affair anyway, and I can't abide Stella and her insipidness. A new regime at the Rovers with Sally Webster as landlady would be perfect.
Bill Webster and Pam Hobsworth. I wouldn't axe them completely as I like them turning up occasionally but I would have them get married and move further away, so at least we know why they're never around. Paul Kershaw. As mentioned above, Eileen is back to her old self the last few weeks showing how much better she is without him and his misery. Lewis Archer. Completely out of place in Coronation Street as an ongoing character. Claudia was a better sparring partner for Audrey so I'd bring her back. Sean Tully. Not the most controversial choice so I doubt it needs explanation. I'm yet to be convinced Marcus has much life without Sean but I would keep him on for a while to see how it goes. Mary Taylor. Mary is a one-episode joke who somehow has stayed for four years. She's there solely for comic value and in the real world she would be in an institution as she clearly has serious psychological problems. I do wonder sometimes if Mary was supposed to go when she held Norris hostage but she was kept on because the writers thought she was funny, even though it meant having Norris forget what she put him through, and everybody to ignore the fact she's clearly off her trolley. Plus, her going would free Norris up to spar with Rita more. Kirk Sutherland. I don't mind Kirk as much as some people, but he's been in less episodes than Emily this year so the writers clearly have no interest in writing for him. Maria Connor. The very definition of an exhausted character. She's been with everyone and had everything happen to her, and all the characters she's associated with are gone except Tyrone, and I'd rather pair him up with Fiz. Kirsty Soames. Once her storyline is done I think it would harm the character to have her stay. Chesney Brown and Katy Armstrong. For reasons others have said. The baby could have been the making of both characters but instead it's been the death knell. |
