Mists of Pandaria

http://www.amazon.co.uk/World-Warcraft-Mists-Pandaria-DVD/dp/B00844SQO6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1342534748&sr=8-1

£34.99

Pretty expensive seeing as you could get Cataclysm for £24.99 last time round.

It's £29.99 if you get it online from blizzard

£39.99 for the digital deluxe edition which comes with the extra in game stuff from the boxed collectors edition

Great news about the price.

Amazon should now hopefully reduce the price of it to nearer £25.

As a side note you can upgrade from a retail box to the Digital Deluxe edition for just £10. So if you can nab it retail for under £29.99, then you will save. Only downside is you will be unlikley to play "on launch" but that isn't an issue for me.

Don't play it, but WoW is free until level 20 now, unless they stopped that.

So the game itself shouldn't be an issue.

And you're right, £8 or whatever it is a month and then £35 for an expansion...!

Yea i knew it was free, had it before, was wondering how their expansion works. But the charge is not right to me. I thought blizzard was about the people?

It's an expansion to the existing game, the monthly subs go towards the games company continuing to develop their product. You pay for an expansion to every other game genre why would you think it should be any different for an MMO?

Short answer, no.

Long answer:
Don't think you can add an expansion to a 1-20 starter account. You will need to buy the Battle Chest at least.

Vanilla (level 1-60) + Burning Crusade (60-70), now sold as one item, The Battle Chest.
Wrath of the Lich King (70-80)
Cataclysm, (80-85).
Pandaria is 85-90.

So if you want to level a monk/panda to 90 you will need 3 expansions + the base game. Someone feel free to correct me as I've not played in a while , but that's how I understood it.

The monthly sub to develop the product? Hmm ok. I don't want it to seem like I'm trolling but that sounds like BS

Also £35 for just level 85-90 is quite high

There are quite a few free to play MMOGs, where the basic game is free and you can choose to pay for upgrades in small payments. Guild Wars 2 is out soon too, like the first one this will be subscription free, they will make their money on box sales and fairly regular expansion packs (every six months or so).
When WoW first came out the 8-10 quid a month sub + charge for the box, was the norm, I think it's the exception now. Still, there are a lot of people who happily pay it.

problem i find with most Free MMORPGS is that they are usually filled with bugs, pay2win and tend to have developers who don't really care for it.

Also most MMOs out now would require me to get a new computer..so really WoW is the only thing i can play that runs at a decent rate and that still has people playing it. Even then i run the game with just 30FPS on the standard resolution, goes up to 40 on 800x600 and goes up to 50 with no one else on the screen and with Game booster on

Will be holding off snapping up another expansion, particularly at £30+. I'm in no hurry, got plenty of levelling to do on alts.

complex is not the same as boring, though I admit I never get round to renewing subs for it. They have given away every single one of their expansions though!

No I totally agree complex is not the same as boring. Yet Eve is complex and boring.

£35 is a total rip off considering we've given Blizzard £89.90 for 10 months without an update of any sort. Don't get me wrong I think we should be paying for expansions, but certainly not £35 and certainly not when Blizzard have treated it's subscribers like s**t throughout Cataclysm.

In the previous expansion we had effectively 4 patches. 1. Raid and 2 dungeons, 2. Raid and 1 dungeon, 3. Raid and 3 dungeons, 4. Raid.

The first patch of Cataclysm offered just 2 dungeons, with Blizzard telling us the new updates would be smaller, but more frequent. The 2nd featured just 1 raid. The third a raid and 3 new dungeons, and the announcement that it would be the final expansion of Cataclysm.

So not only were we one patch shorter than the previous expansion, we'd missed a raid, and some dungeons along the way, when we were promised more frequent updates.

To cap it all off, this was all announced after Blizzard had offered it's loyal subscribers an annual pass, sold as "agree to pay us for 12 months and you'll get a free mount, a free copy of Diablo 3 and access to the Mists Beta". So everyone signed up, only to actually realize it was just a great big con to keep income up during the 10 month lull between content.

I'm still going to buy Mists Of Pandaria though

Their expansions are akin to the content patches released in other MMOs though. They're not an expansion pack in the true sense of the word - ie they don't addwholesale new continents to explore, new quests, new races, there isn't usually 8G of content to download or install from memory. Have they finally released the EP that actually lets you get out of your ship and walk around the space stations?

EVE follows a totally different model to the traditional MMO so it very much is an exception to the rule.

It is incredibly beautiful but not being able to get out of my ship drove me nuts when I played it, plus paying to level skills while offline just didn't gel with the idea of an MMO for me. It was interesting for about three months then the guild as a whole stopped playing. A couple of the guys do still activate their accounts for the odd month and go back to check it out but none of us stuck around much beyond the game's launch.

I thought it was a pretty transparent move at the time, SWTOR just coming out & wow subs were on the wane before then, they realised they had nothing in the tank until the next exp, so chucked in d3 and a beta and hoped people would take the bait. I cancelled not long after that offer appeared, I was bored then, never mind 10 months later.

At the time people thought Blizzard were worried about SWTOR, hence the carrot on a stick being dangled if we stayed loyal. We were still under the assumption that Cataclysm would be following the smaller but more frequent updates model which Blizzard stated was happening, so when 4.3 hit, and was announced as the final update it took a lot of people by surprise.

I was bored of 4.3 by March and would have unsubscribed for 5 months had I not gone for the annual pass.
