Buyout to Renew or other possible options.
Hi all,
I was chatting to a staff member in Phones 4u earlier for a possible upgrade from the S2 to the S3. The sales assistant said, that as my contract is due to expire next February that the earliest I could possible upgrade would be November, but if I wanted to, I could sell my S2 to them to cover the cost of a buyout & then take out a fresh contract with a new handset. I was also told that I would have to change numbers as the buyout would cease my existing number, and that the only way I could go back to my old number was to switch it to a payg first, for a month & then change. I was wondering if there were other options that haven't been revealed to me, or is that the only possibility of getting the handset before November. Many Thanks DJM |

That doesn't sound right.
You should be able to pay off your remaining line rental in advance for the express purpose of upgrading instead of merely cancelling. That would allow you to kep the same number and network. That or even if you were to pay it off and cancel, you should still be able to get a PAC, allowing you to keep your number if you were to switch to a different network. Also, you need to check with your network exactly how much it would cost to pay off your remaining line rental, bearing in mind that you have to pay 'til the end of the contract, even if your intention is to upgrade. Then you'd need to get a straight answer from P4U as to how much they'd give you for your existing handset. You could find what they offer wouldn't actually cover the line rental. |

Do not do the buyout option with P4U. It usually ends up costing more than buying out the contract. Plus the contract prices are higher than new customers have to pay.
Ring your network, ask them how much it'll cost to buy out your contract. Then contact phones 4 u and ask them how much you'll pay per month and how much they'll buy the S2 for and whether it will cover the cost of the buyout. Then work out which one is cheaper to do. Won't be phones 4 u based on my experience. |

Thanks for the replies
. I got in contact with Vodafone today & they said that my buyout charge for an early termination & to bring my upgrade date forward, would be £89 & that it would be added to my next bill. I am now a proud owner of a Galaxy S3 & seeing as I can sell my S2 for at least £200, it was well worth doing the buyout. Thanks again for the replies
