Not looking good for Series 7 is it

Anyone else got that feeling that Series 7 is totally going to bomb in everyway.

The Media will be bored with all the breaks aswell as fans and the ratings will suffer massively aswell due to the lack of loyalty and general frustration.

All in all I and many of my friends and family think Series 7 will be the last FULL series of Doctor Who ever, they will probably go out with a special for the 50th Anniversary and that will be Doctor Who over.

The breaks are getting tedious now, I mean even if we look at the whole of August for S7,P1 start date we will have waited 32/35 weeks for a new episode to have it over by September and then wait yet another 13/16 weeks before the Christmas special and then maybe more until S7,P2.

The BBC and Steven Moffatt need to seriously think this over imo.

No it's not looking good for series 7, it's looking great for series 7.

Doctor Who is one of the BBC's biggest shows both and home and overseas and is going no where for the foreseeable future.

I wouldn't say that, all the stories are stand alone and I have high hopes for this series but I don't like the splits or the long wait.

Just think the last time we had a Doctor Who episode was Christmas day! and the last time we had a series episode was the 1st October last year!

Exactly what i'm saying. Ok I know this might be a bit contradictory like but if it meant having a FULL series without breaks why cant it start on 17 November and run to 15 December with a 10 day break until Christmas Day and then come back 11 days later between 5 January to 23 February

You do realise, that with most British shows, you have to wait nine months between series?

You sound like a whining tedious pillock to be honest.

Ouch! I knew Dr. Who fans were fiercely loyal but.....anyway, lets see what happens before pre-judging. I'm looking forward to these five episodes, especially the first one and the finale. The impression I get is that with Jenna-Louise Coleman coming in things will change, getting less cosy. I'm really looking forwrd to this, though not the repetitive monster thing with Mme. Vastra & the Sontaron. Still, I might have it all wrong?

It's looking AMAZING for Doctor Who

Great sounding episodes.

Some astonishing casting.

New companion = new ideas.

50th Anniversary = the show will be EVERYWHERE.

Biggest show on iTunes in the USA = massive worldwide success.

Can't see any problems here...

Ffs... No. Nothing of the sort. It's getting tedious now. How can you possibly judge it before you know anything about it. Just. Wait. And. See.

It can`t be worse than the last series. Apart from about three episodes it was dire.

It's the Doctor Who fandom, it's what they do. As you can see people hate it before it's even aired.

The reason they are doing the breaks is because they wanted to test how fans would accept it as they want a episode to air on its birthday next year.

This, this, a thousand times this!

For the love of $Deity, we are talking about a series that:
  • Posted an average viewing figure for S6 around 10 MILLION viewers!
  • Has an average audience appreciation index in the 80's (sorry, don't have exact figures to hand)
  • Is one of the five core brands for BBC worldwide and series 5 was the top selling program by value (s6 figures aren't available but considering the increase in Who demand in the US alone I'd expect it to do better than s5).
  • has JUST had a brand new home built in Cardiff for it's incredibly popular exhibition.
  • Has had its repeats constantly hitting the top 20 on iPlayer recently.

Anyone predicting dooooooooooooooooooooom for Doctor Who always seems to be basing it on their own personal view of the series and doesn't even pause to consider the wider picture, very annoying to put it mildly.

Actually, no, sorry that's not annoying. What's annoying is this show is currently the strongest its ever been, delivering some stunning work and finding an audience that most believed didn't exist back in 2005 and yet some of its 'fans' INSIST that it's dying and that all is despair and doom. We should be bloody well dancing in the streets, instead we feed the press all the ammo they ever need to try and do that most British of things: attacking something that's successful. Criticise what you don't like by all means but that one thing - the fact the show exists and IS a success by pretty much any measure you care to use - should always be regarded for the miracle it is and kept in mind when talking about the show in a wider context.

I'm no fan of the last two series but the desperate attempt to whip up some doom and gloom about the series based on nothing is a bit tiresome.

Looking ahead to next year there might be some fatigue setting in after the massive coverage the 50th is likely to get so hopefully there is a break after that but the series is clearly still doing well and a very important part of the BBC line up.

Season 7 is basically back in Who's traditional autumn slot - with half the season before Christmas, and the other half after.

I understand what you mean about all the gaps, but I am hopeful its now had a permanent move and will stay exactly where it is.

I have to be honest, I did prefer the broadcast pattern for seasons 1-4 much more - but I don't mind a change if it turns out to be in the best interest of the show.

As I understand it Moffat has delayed the production as he didn't want to compromise the quality of the show - which I take to mean he didn't want to rush it and use sh*te scripts. So it's the exact opposite of what the OP is saying.

I also believe they've pushed it to Autumn so that they can fully celebrate the 50th next year.

Finally, I really can't see them dropping Dr Who. Have you seen the sales figures the BBC are making worldwide from it. Even if Moffat and Matt Smith walk away., the bbc will certainly get new personel in to carry it on.

Well unless you and many of my friends and family number 10 million then I think it will it may just survive.

From what I've read and heard it certainly doesn't appear to me that you and many of your friends and family represent the views of the average viewer.

I highly doubt they'll stop it anytime soon even if it is rubbish (which I doubt). It's one of their biggest money spinners, and brings in massive veiwing firgures, plus it being a safe option instead of coming up with a whole new Saturday night drama. A lot of the ratings as well will be casual veiwers who won't particualy care about the scheduling behind it, as long as it's better than whats on other channels, and easy enough to follow (which if it's standalone episodes the chances will be high)

I can't agree with the O.P. as I think the show seems to be forming up nicely. However I am in agreement with a lot of people about the long breaks between series and the fact that despite what anyone claims, we are not getting a full series in 2012 and I find that very disapointing. I think and its only my opinion, that some people are actually getting a bit bored with waiting. I know I am. You only have to look at some of the threads in this forum to see that a lot of people seem to be running out of things to say. We are getting the same old polls as to which Dr was better, which story was better, which series was better etc etc. I don't believe for one minute that the BBC have any intention of finishing the programme, after all it is a massive money maker for it, not to mention a highly popular critically aclaimed programme. They would be mad to cancel it.

Problem is these days programs tire easily. What if fans lose interest.

Ive been watching since the tom baker days but the things they do in the new series is so out of character.

Yeah., this is all too true. It can't just be me, but it makes me feel like a sad arse keep voting and commenting on those kind of threads. I swear I'll be in a mental assignment when I'm older rocking in a chair saying 'Tom Baker was best... no Tennant was, The Seeds of Doom, The Satan Pit.... someone wrap my head in tin foil....'

Going by the fevered posting of some on this and other forums, as well as the ratings, it's got a long, long way to go. And, unlike many other long-running series, the programme quite cleverly reinvents itself, the Doctor, the companions, the adversaries, and even the Tardis. Even the nature of the plots and the writing changes.

It copes with the main actors leaving, it copes with members of the production team leaving.

So it always looks and feels fresh.

And I think that it's looking excellent for S7 (and beyond).

I can't help feeling that some of these doom and gloom posts are started by newspaper hacks looking for usable quotes from forum members to sell a non-story...
So here's one for them - its about time journalists put the news back in newspapers and started reporting facts, not gossip and uninformed speculation!
..Any others, anyone..?
