HMV reduce their games stock?

Is this just in my local branches or have HMV seemingly reduced their games stock? A year or so ago, it used to be that if you didn't find a game you could always ask the staff as they often had some more games in the store but now you're told if a game isn't on the shelves it's not in stock, I've also noticed for all formats, only best sellers, selected budget games and preowned games appear to be stocked with titles like Rhythm Thief for the 3DS nowhere to be seen. What I wondered is whether this has happened in anyone else's local HMV stores i.e. it appears to be a franchise decision or if it's just my branches reducing their stock? Just for reference, the area where more games used to be stocked is now occupied by merchandise like T-Shirts and also partly by I-Pods/Tech accessories

Same story in my store. Incidentally, they've got supplier trouble. I've been looking for the Simpsons season 14 boxset all year (it was meant to be a present for my January birthday). Turns out they've been waiting for new stock since February. And nowhere else on the high street seems to sell DVD box sets.

Try online, you'll get it cheaper. Have games sales declined in HMV? If so, surely Music is bound to have been hit by the rise of Downloads?

I think they are running with lower stock than they used to but it's too common for sales assistants to use the 'if it's not on the shelf...' line these days cos they can't be bothered to go and look out the back.

Would anyone really buy from HMV anyway. Look at the prices they charge and then next door in GAME the games are always cheaper.

No they're not, especially when it comes to second-hand stuff!
HMV near me has shifted stuff around as they now deal with more tech hardware, they made a big thing about this in the news, but they haven't reduced their stock. Why would they after making a big issue out of taking advantage of GAME taking a knock?

Music is still plentiful. Games space has shrunk and PC games banished in my local His Masters Voice.

They've just extended the gaming section in Newcastle but it's a flagship store.

The whole of the bottom floor is dedicated to gaming but they have moved things around and now have a decent sized floorspace with a huge amount of demo gaming including Vitas and DS alongside your standard consoles

I'm shocked at someone finding Game cheaper to HMV, it's quite the opposite for me, not only that but Game sell preowned stuff for crazy prices and give you like £5 for the game, HMV's prices are generous for trade-in

Gamestation offer a better trade in value.

I dont see why people here dont set up a trading section where we can sell our stuff to other people at a fair price.

The HMV in the Bullring still had the same amount of games as normal last time I checked. Not that I'd buy any at the price they were charging that is.

This is rarely the case in my experience, and I tend to have a browse in both stores on most of my lunchbreaks.

new retail releases are often a couple of quid cheaper in HMV and they drop prices to £25-30 sooner and for longer.

Are you sure about that? I've seen second hand games in GAME bordering full price RRP prices.
