I have recently bought an Apple TV unit and am using it for Netflix. I noticed it has an optical output but not coaxial. Unfortunately the two optical inputs on the back of my sony amp no longer work. The lead will not click into place. So I have been been using pro logic 2 to listen instead which isnt bad but not as good as DD. I use a coaxial lead for Sky and blu ray. So if my optical input did work would Netflix be in 5.1 sound. (Obviously i know not everything would be in 5.1.) I need to know this bwfore i consider paying to get the amp repaired. Thanks.

Yep I can also confirm it works, not all films have it though.

netflix on ATV is a split between HD/SD.

@JEFF62

you know that you can buy a optical to coax converter, then if needed use a coax switch.

Although a new amp is also desirable.

Oh right. That sounds like a solution. So is that a lead which is optical plug at one end and coaxial at the other? Just phoned the local Sony repair shop and there is a £20 charge just to look at it. Maybe this lead would be cheaper as I would only need optical for this.
