As many of you probably know, a few years ago, Robbie Williams brought out his albumn "Swing when your winning", a tribute to classic artists such as Frank Sinatra and Bobby Darren. This albumn was said to eaither make or break his career. Luckily, for Robbie, this pushed his singing career higher.
Now after Robbie's success covering Swing classics, many other artists seem to be having a go, including Westlife!
I have never been a fan of Westlife, in fact I really didn't like them. I just found it really annoying how a band could get their way to number 1 around 11 times just by mainly singing covers that were ballards! Now, after the departure of Brian McFadden, they have decided to go for the "make or break" option by releasing an albumn of Rat Pack covers.
What do you guys think of this albumn? Will it break their career?

I think that Westlifes appearance on The Junior Eurovision Song Contest the other night has sealed their fate.

Robbie did it because it was something new to try - and it worked, he did it great!

But Westlife are just jumping on the bandwagon - I havent heard the album because i didnt like Ain't that a kick in the head

i feel they are truing to be other artists, the voices sound 'put on' and the actions they do seem unnatural

I definitely think they are on the road to failure now...and will go the same way as the spice girls did...they should quit while they're ahead and successful - always go out on a high...!

They look so stoopid standing on stage in their suits, with all those musicians behind them, and they give it their all...and MIME! The actions they do look stoopid and so put on and rehearsed. I did use to like Westlife back in the day, but i wouldn't touch em with a bargepole now!!!

Also think that Robbie did it cause he grew up on that music, and has a real genuine passion and appreciation of it, and I think because of that he pulls it of really very. Plus I think Robbie has more of the personality for it. Westlife doing it really does just seem like cashing in.

Totally agree. Robbie grew up with his dad singing those type of songs and actually has a passion for the music. He's also got charisma, which you need to try and pull off something like that successfully.

Westlife are doing Rat Pack by numbers. IE a note perfect but completely souless collection of songs they havent got a chance in hell of doing justice to just cos Louis Walsh told them to.

Funny thing is, Louis Walsh slates Robbie. he says hes never rated him and hes a 'pub singer'. Hmmmmmm, still nicked his idea 3 years too late though.

Hasn't the bloody album been released already?
I heard their version of "smile" and God! did it make me frown!
They don't have the personality to pull off that genre of music. Everyone (not just westlife) seems to be jumping on the bandwagon these days, Kylie is releasing a Jazz/Swing type album soon and we all know kylie isn't the greatest singer in the world.
Then we have the wannabe jazz/soul singers who came out of the wood work once they saw the success of Amy Winehouse, Joss Stone and Jamie Cullum.

I'm not saying that this album is rubbish, but I don't understand why people can't just get the originals-they're so much better. Would you not pick Sinatra over Westlife singing Sinatra any day?

I don't hate Jamie (cullum), Katie, Amy or Joss, like I said, its the ones who were not half as good, who seem to be coming out of the wood work like termites that I detest. Like the one who sang "just" and the other girl(s).

, My 9 Year old neice loves Westlife (and i do to ), But when she heared the westlife album she wanted to know how the originals sounded so she listened to Sinatra and she now loves that style of music.

If its making the younger generation listen to sinatra, then surly it can only be a good thing

It's a very good thing, but I have friends who don't usually like Westlife at all but have bought Allow Us To Be Frank because they like the music-it's like they don't even know that their covers!
