If it's powering up making all the normal sounds, then I doubt it's PSU. To me from what you've said it sounds as if the GPU (is it onboard?) could of gone bad. Have you got a graphics card to test this ?

Usually PSU or motherboard. The fact there is power going to the fans does not indicate that the PSU is functioning correctly. Either try a spare PSU or go through the usual diagnostic step of disconnecting or removing all non-essential parts and cables (leaving in the CPU & HSF, one stick of RAM and the graphics card, if it has one).

Then if able to and feel comfortable open up the PC and check everything. Swap PSU,Ram etc to you've found the root of the problem.

Glad you've got it working. But if you've replaced it with an old/cheapy PSU, you may want to buy a decent new one instead. A branded 450W will only cost around £30.
