wedding of river song

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode...of_River_Song/

I'm not sure why, how I can even attempt a thread on this episode. Words simply cannot desraibe just how much I bloody LOVE IT! It's easily the best episode in series 6 after the impossible astronaut/day of the moon and probably the best series finale after the pandorica opens/the big bang. It's just great, every single second is wonderful and it doesent put a foot wrong. I was disappointed with most of series 6.2, however this really made up for it. It looks and feels epic as it ties up, or gets us thinking it's tied up (when we think the Doctor tells River his name!) most of the loose ends from past series. I've always thought this would make a great actual LAST episode i.e. one where the Doctor actually dies. Everything comes full circle, we return to the scene where the Doctor dies at the very beginning of Series 6, only this time with answers instead of questions. We now know almost everything about River and the Silence and the Doctor seems to finish any and all unfinished business he has with companions Amy and Rory. The scenes between Amy and the Doctor on the train are so touching and I laughed out loud at the scene between the Doctor and Rory in Area 51 where the Doctor tries to hook up Rory with Amy, I dont know why but I just find that scene so funny. "you really havent done this before have you." Matt Smith really acts his socks off, very convincingly playing the part of a Doctor whose about to die and his relationship with River really is properly filled, we go all the way back to series 4 with silence in the library/forest of the dead as the Doctor tells River his name (we thought) and echoes River's dying words as he's about to die. More than that, we have the question, "Doctor Who?" which seems to go right back to the very first episode in 1963. It really is the first question and Steven Moffatt really is 1 of the best writers this countries ever known, **** William Shakespeare. Never really liked Shakespeare anyways, he's good, but like the Beatles he's insanely over rated. Winston Churchill, Dorium, the Tesselecta captain and Mark Gatiss's Viking person are all really well acted and the first 20-ish minutes of the episode just bleed epic. The scene with the Dalek is cool as is the scene where the Doctor reveals to Dorium how he survived. And the scene above the pyramid just brilliant. However, the best scene in this episode, the scene that makes this episode, sums it up for me, and has to be THE best scene in the whole of Dr Who's 49 year history, is the scene where the Doctor hears about the Brigadier's death and finally goes to his own. Not only is this a wonderful tribute to Nicholas Courtney, the music is amazing in the bits where the Doctor's talking about not having to die alone while we see the footage from The Impossible Astronaut where the Doctor meets Amy and Rory (Murray Gold deserves a medal for this scene alone), the emotions. You really feel like this is it, the Doctor is going to die, 100% EPIC!!! And how fitting, that the Doctor only accepts he must die after hearing about the death of the Brigadier, one of his oldest, and probably his best friend, whose been there his entire life, whose met his 1st,2nd,3rd,4th,5th,6th & 7th incarnations, who you'd think might be able to outlive the Doctor. Just love that scene and you should deffo give this a rewatch, even if it's just for that scene and that track. 10/10. Brilliant episode. You can really tell everyone has excelled themselves!

I like how Series 5 and 6 both ended in different ways compared to 1-4. Series 5 very much ended on a happy note, despite hanging questions. Series 6 shoves the biggest question of the show in our faces immediately after explaining what happened way back in episode 1.

With this episode, River showed a softer side as she always comes across as quite a strong willed character but even she was surprised and taken aback when the Doctor decided they were gonna be married. Wouldn't it be nice if the Doctor could do the marriage thing again but more formal and more romantic.

I was disappointed with the episode. The two stand-out episodes of the series for me were The Doctor's Wife and The Girl Who Waited. The rest of series 6 was a bit disappointing IMO

I hope series 7 is better. I'm really looking forward to it.

Be nice for The Doctor and River to have a little time together without too much distractions.

I really liked the arc for this series abd this just drew it to a perfect conclusion. I think the arcs for series 1-4 were a bit meh, this is how such an arc should really be done in a series where you have time travel etc, go back to it, wrap it all up

I thought it was a good episode, not my fave finale but definitely enjoyable and interesting nonetheless.

I've just read all of the OP's post and while I agree that Moffat is a good writer, as evidenced by Sherlock, which was excellent, I would have to disagree that he is better than Shakespeare.

Re TWoRS, I like the flirty bits best.

Thing is, I dont say the Moff's bett tha Shakespeare cos he's the best writer ever which probably isnt true, I say it cos I dont think Shakespeare is at all as good as he's cracked up to be, there's loads of writers I'd consider to be better. He's unoriginal, most of his works either being histories (I say history, more like propoganda e.g. Richard III) ir rip off's of other stories (there's loads of old myths and legends which are almost identical to plays like Romeo and Juliet in terms of plot).

It's not just the plots though. It's the way he writes them. And there are very few really original plots anyway - most writers just find different ways of spinning things around.

Will have to agree to disagree! I don't get this 'overrated' idea 50 odd years after their original music came out people young and old are still listening to them. Same with Shakespeare, but we are talking centuries instead of decades.
Love Doctor Who so let's stick with discussing that. BTW way thought this episode was overrated (ha ha), some really bad overacting by Frances Barber (and I love her normally) resembling the wicked witch in Wizard of Oz. Apart from that thought it was a bit meh!

I had mixed feelings liked the wedding. Doctor realised he did love River as much as she loved him and proved it. Funniest moment is when Amy realises now her daughter is married she is now the doctors mother in law!. Still think it was a bit futile. Nothing they did or found out in the whole series changed anything. Remember River saying in TBB that everything would change once the doctor realised who she really was?. Doctor "died" you just know there will be consequences for that.We also still have uninished buissness with the silence particually Madame Kavarian who escaped Amy's rough "justice" by surviving when time was reset. Dread to think what that woman is up too. Also the "fall" of the 11th and the question needs to be cleared up.
