The airline I work for only does long haul. We get lots of guys mostly become cabin crew, so while doing PPL can get flying hours up by flying in the states - it's so much cheaper.

A favourite is LA as we get two days there.

that's how my old flatmate did it.

He tooik me for a flight in LA in a tiny aircraft, I was terrified LOL.

He got his hours up, got job at easy jet as first Officer.

he now works for BA

Anyone seen this?

Thankfully everyone made it out alive, but I don't think that pilot pulled of a landing as good as Captain Sully's in the Hudson River!

This helicopter uses the NOTAR anti-torque system which replaces the usual helicopter tail rotor to counteract the torque effect induced by the main lifting rotor.

This helicopter is used by a number of police and air ambulance services around the world, including in the UK, and it's turned out to be very good in those roles. It also appears to be particularly safe and reliable when compared against other helicopters: http://aerospaceindustrynews.webs.co...he%20NOTAR.pdf

And now for some even more flaky and unconventional stuff:
The British Rail Flying Saucer
The Avrocar
Project Silver Bug

I think the Dubai Airport terminal is the best I've seen in the world (Terminals 1 & 3).

Looks normal to me. A good solid landing!

This is a hard landing!

I like this one. Not a hard landing. just a well executed crosswind landing...

As someone commented "I'm surprised he had any tyres left after that!"

I was watching that from the side of the runway and despite the tyre smoke, it didn't look too bad. However, seeing that footage (taken by a friend), we realised just how heavy it was. We're not even sure he'd reached the threshold! Put it this way, he turned the plane around on a dime about 1/3 the way down the runway. He wasn't for backtracking too far!

Not many airports seem to have to do backtracking. Birmingham have started to have to do it when taking off on one runway, because of their runway works - latest info here: http://bhxflightguide.blogspot.co.uk...013-04-12.html

Filton only had partial parallel taxiways. Backtracking was necessary.

Air India are looking for a new stop in the UK. They should be wise and go with Birmingham as it worked out well for them before.

What's your favorite airline livery?
cnbcwatcher
26-04-2013
Has to be Aer Lingus of course, since I've been living in Ireland since 2003 and have flown with them a lot going back and forth to London

I also like US Airways' livery and branding for some reason. I'm kinda sad to see it go. I think when they merge with American they should use the American Airlines name and the US Airways logo and branding, a bit like what United did when they merged with Continental.

That would be the ones I see in films, Hassaan13:

TWA - Trans World Airlines

Pan Am - Pan American World Airways

BOAC - British Overseas Airways Corporation

Sadly, those airlines are now defunct.

I quite like the US Airways livery (at least they're still going!).

I'm glad I'm not the only one! They're still going for now but they're merging with American Airlines I have a model US Airways plane I bought in 2005 sitting on my bedside table and my wallpaper on my phone is this: http://cdn.airnation.net/wp-content/...ways_tails.jpg I love that photo you've posted! I might borrow it as wallpaper for my laptop or phone

Maybe I have a problem I should go back to cnbcwatching and bragging in Starbucks about Macbooks

I liked PIA's back in the day, and British Airways. Emirates' is relatively simple, I like Qatar & Etihad's.

One of my favourite videos of the A380.

The guy filming it got an extra bonus, makes you appreciate how big that bird is.

Turns out Air India are in the process of choosing a second stop in the UK. They tried Manchester in the 90s which didn't seem to work out. They tried Birmingham in 2005 which ran for 3 years and was rather successful, but they ended up terminating it, at first temporarily, to save their valuable slots at Heathrow - they initially stated they'd return the next summer (2009) but never did so it'll be a lucky break for Birmingham.

Meanwhile at Birmingham, Turkish Airlines have increased to 10x weekly flights. And here are some images of the airport skyline recently.

In the distance, there is the hangar which Monarch will be using.

This is inside the new ATC tower which opens in two weeks - Here it is from the outside: http://i1268.photobucket.com/albums/...ps89c533b5.jpg

That's the international pier recently.

http://i1268.photobucket.com/albums/...ps470f3693.jpg

And finally, those are the runway works. As you can begin to see, the A45 diversion works are coming along nicely.

I didn't take these photos myself - got them off another forum. If only photos would show up here.

Virgin Atlantic are returning to short haul - this could mean services from more UK airports ”

Yes we visited it about 3 years ago. My little boy is Concorde daft so we decided to stop off in Manchester and have the tour. He loved it, he got to sit in the cockpit you even got a certificate to say you've been on Concorde, it was fab, would recommend it. They have a fantastic viewing area also.

That smaller plane beside it also shows how large it actually is

I used to be as a kid. I even wanted to be a pilot on Concorde but that dream was crushed after the crash I'd say I would have been pretty good. I've always been interested in aviation ever since I was little. I don't know why, I just find it fascinating.
