Phoenix Squadron by Rowland White is a top book if you like Buccaneers...if you aint read it allready of course
I'll give it a read. I had a couple of close enounters with Buccaneers while hill walking in the Highlands many years ago - the first time we could hear it, looked up but couldn't see anything... then we realised we were above it.

The second time we were in a car and one came over very low. As my mate said "Any lower and he'd be paying road tax!"

Great planes.

They were amazing, nothing in the world better at what they did back then. The book is really worth reading , we even have aircraft carriers , plural , in it .

The MD-87 will be making its last European flight on Sept 1st with SAS. Sad to see the mad dogs go.

In the heady post-war years of the 1950s and 60s, British flying was at its zenith and its aircraft industry flourished in a dazzling display of ingenuity and design brilliance. Having invented the jet engine, Britain was now set to lead the world into the jet age with a new generation of fighters and bombers. The daring test pilots who flew them were as well-known as the football stars of today, while their futuristic-looking aircraft, including the Meteor, Canberra, Valiant, Vulcan and the English Electric Lightning, were the military marvels of the age.

The first part was shown at 9pm this evening on BBC4 and it's available on iPlayer now using the link above. Next week's programme will be about the development of jet airliners and the Comet aircraft will almost certainly be featured.

I wonder why some folk pay extra for priority boarding passes, surely the less time spent sitting in a cramped airline seat the better. Most times when I've flown I'd sit in the lounge till the queue had boarded then board as late as possible, provided there were allocated seats of course.

As a skydiver, I have much love for pilots and planes. I'd love to learn to fly a plane one day, bit out of my budget at the moment though. The joys of being a cash-strapped student!

At your service, duckymallard, and I have some more aviation goodies for you and indeed anyone else.

About three years ago, Channel 4 showed a very good documentary on Britain's three V bombers and the relevant information is posted below:

Well, biggest airport in the world, needs a discussion thread.

Discuss travels, what's going on at the moment (My airport is Birmingham but I'll start a thread on that if this goes well).

Also, getting some staff at the airport to discuss here aswell would be great too.

I tell you why, the runway's not long enough. Thankfully they are working on it, and after that they intend on flying worldwide

Made one for Heathrow so I thought I'd make one for my regional airport

They are currently working on the runway extension, after which they'll be able to fly to more distances, such as the Far East (China).

GOOD!

In Heathrow I always feel as though I'm in a marathon. Those terminals are soooo faaaarrrr appaaaaartttttt. lol
I need to like, stop and take a coffee break enroute to the departure gate before I pass out from exertion.

The one thing I will give Heathrow props for, is having a mini Harrods.

I hate taking the tube to Heathrow, it's such a drag!

I have no problems with the airport itself, apart from the huge number of people, but that's inevitable. They have a much better selection of shops and restaurants than Stansted though.
