Actually, seeing as this is not too far away from me, you might be interested in this news:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bristol-36388441

I've also seen 002 at the Fleet Air Arm Museum, Yeovilton but since it was basically a test version, all the innards are grey performance monitoring consoles.

Boeing did at one time consider building the Sonic Cruiser (to travel at just under the speed of sound) but the project was deemed to be too expensive which is a shame: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_Sonic_Cruiser & https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=so..._AUIBygC&dpr=1

That means today the fastest civilian plane is still the Cessna Citation X: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cessna_Citation_X

Interesting. I'm surprised it wasn't already there, actually.

I think the days of supersonic travel are long gone, unfortunately. Hard to believe Concorde was basically 1960s technology.

I remember it well. I used to be a regular visitor to the Croydon area and most evenings one would pass over heading into Heathrow about 6pm. BA002 was the flight number, if I recall correctly.

I also remember the dull thuds of the sonic boom coming up from the English Channel from flights heading into Paris. Some people have since disputed that it was possible but I, and many others, heard it regularly.

What is your favourite aircraft to fly on? Mine might be the Boeing 777-300.

I was speaking to a 23 year old and theyd never heard of concorde. He youtubed it and was amazed. Then asked why we dont use it.
Its already passed out of social awareness.

Ive been on many; but Ive only been on one type twice- and it was the exact same plane. A BEA vickers viscount in 1973 when the one we should have been on , a dehavilland trident 3 had broke down; and the exact same one in 1997.

The favourite has to be that one , closely followed by the vickers super-VC10, and the concorde. Wish I could have gone on concorde again

A 10 year old (who presumably doesn't have interest in aviation) would have been 10 when Concorde retired, so that's probably the reason.

In 2014, there were some scenic flights out of Birmingham (UK) to celebrate the final DC-10 flight. I'm kicking myself for not going on them!

I am old enough that one of my first flights was on an old Dakota from Southend to Guernsey - wonderful. As for those not flown on, my all time favourite has to be Concorde, and before it came along, the VC10 which I thought looked beautiful.

I always liked flying "upstairs" on a 747. It felt like being on a small private plane.

I thought this from Imgur is pretty cool. Someone spent two years creating photos of air traffic around the world.

Easily the 757! Could listen to those RB211's all day!

Airlines are an excellent way to import people we don't want, diseases and animals we don't want and are great for the environment (air and noise pollution). What's not to like.

Fixed that for you. Concorde has only passed out of social awareness among those with no social awareness, and children.

I think some of you might be interested in this. It's a picture of the flight deck of the 747-8.

Any plane spotters here? Any pictures/videos you've made that you'd like to share?

My very first flight was in 1955 in a DC4 to Stockholm while working with SAS and being a little concerned to see while on the ground the wing tips flapping up and down a foot or more, and flames coming from the engine exhausts - which apparently was quite normal.
Later my best flight experiences were piloting my own Cessna 172J over the UK France - Channel Isles and Scillies. Whereas flying by Jet to Singapore was 12 hours each way of sheer boredom and suffrage.

I think you'll like this. An Airbus A320 take off in strong crosswinds.

If you were ever on the Northern Perimeter Road at Heathrow around 18.20 to 18.30 when Concorde landed and went into reverse thrust, you could go deaf at the car alarms that were set off in the car parks probably due to the vibration.

I was on the Heathrow to Manchester shuttle one year and we were behind Concorde waiting to go, it nearly blew our plane into oblivion.
