I wonder if there are any members on this forum who are staff at Heathrow

Bump...

I don't like what they have done with the terminal, no viewing area in the terminal anymore, and it seems a lot smaller than it was before.

I think heathrow is brilliant. I fly there alot as I visit Oxford a fair bit and getting through it is always a good experience

Love the duty free shops aswell

Is he a photographer?
Hmm, or perhaps he looks after first class passengers for Air Canada?

EDIT: I always envied the guy who looked after the animals. He seemed to absolutely love his job (despite the occasional shocking things he had to deal with).

T3 is a bit of a dump and needs a total refurb but T5 (despite the problems when it first opened) is one of the best terminals in Europe - though still way behind the best in Asia.

I haven't used T4 for a few years (since BA moved to T5) but it's had millions spent on it to give it a face lift.

Looking forward to seeing the new T2 when it opens next year.

Only flown from Terminal 5 and landed from Terminal 3, T3 can be a bit raucous at times.

I saw an episode of Airport the other month and felt really nostalgic for the programme.
It always felt a little more "classy" than ITV copycat Airline. (If you can call it that)

I know what you mean about missing it. I think it seemed more genuine because it was in the days before everyone in a fly on the wall documentary had half an eye on become in a celeb. In some ways it probably started the trend with Jeremy Spake.

Only in so much as it has the most number of international passengers passing through it.

Painfully aware of this. I live in Clapham Common right under the flightpath.

This is my favourite subject. (let me tell yu about myself first)i was writer for a aviation magazine in the late 60s)
1. heathrow is one of the worlds biggest airports (to my knowledge it is O Hare in the USA)
2. heathrow is basically ruled by BA and BAA the owners and been pressing for an increase in size for many years includeing terminal 4 /5 and the third runway , thats not true there are in fact three runways already its a forth they want the third runway is the one that runs at right angles to the main two at north to south . The third runway was regualar used in the 60s 70s...(FACT)
3. Its the old not in my back garden attitude by people who live and work and relie on the airport for there holidays etc that are complaining yet the airport has been there since the 50s well before any of them lived there.. (fact)
4. its reckoned a future govt party had promised BAA a third runway if they sold Gatwick stansted and one scottish one (fact)
5. I am against the airport have a third/forth runway as its totally un necessary as more expansion of Gatwick stansted and southend is a better for the environment and for jobs too. haveing a third runway at heathrow will not make any new jobs (except building it and pulling down house to make way for it ). it will jsut make thing very silly and my view make the airport less safe as aircraft would have to land on two runways or take off on two at the same time makeing a crash a possibilty ,it would fail health and safety on these grounds.
6 idont have any axes to ground on this just fact as i dont live any where near any airport not have used an airport since 89 Looking at southend and luton airports expansion plans i am impressed and think that those two airports could take at least 50,000 movement between them if all the expansions are done. Gatwick is always a dodgy thing to talk about as Crawley council has for the last 30 years refused any new runway ! Stansted is the big potential and i think with another terminal could get away with just a single runway (some say it has got two ) but i fear that a new runway could be in the offering in 10 years time

Thanks for the newsflash.

What is there about it that you would you like to discuss?

I mean, I might as well start a thread called "My Cupboard" and have an OP consisting of "I have a cupboard".

EDIT- I see you've done some actual talking now. My apologies. If you'd done it in your first post, though, maybe you wouldn't have had to bump your own thread? No skin off my nose either way, but it just seems like it would have been less effort.

The car parking bear trap at BHX is pretty naughty. The old pick up and drop off car park right outside the terminals is seemingly reasonable for a quick drop off or pick up.

However even when you arrive 30 mins AFTER the plane landed you still have to wait 30-45 mins for you pick ups to emerge from baggage because there always seems to be some mysterious delay.

Then you join the crowd of angry parkers at the pay machine who are discovering that it's £5 for every 15 mins after 30 mins even though the delay was caused by the airport themselves.

Heathrow also has a shuttle, and when T2 opens it will have 2. It also has pods for people in business parking.

In which case you should welcome the A380 as it is by far the quietest passenger jumbo to ever take to the skies.

My preference would be for Birmingham or Manchester. Maybe even somewhere much further north. Encourage investment away from London. Unfortunately that won't work very well as a hub. We need to be sure of a good return on the investment and sadly London is far more likely to give us that.

Mind you what really irks me is that in this day and age with the internet being available everywhere why the hell is physical transport still growing? I work for an American company and we have team members and computers on both sides of the Atlantic. We've managed perfectly well working together even though our office has a rather crappy internet connection.
