HomeChoice internet download limits

just moved to London from australia and looking at getting ADSL put on.

I am looking at going with homechoice 1Mb plan but have a question about their download limits. From their website the limit for the 1Mb plan is 1Gb per day. I have two questiosn maybe someone can answer for me.

1) is this calculated on a 24 hour period (ie midnight to midnight = 1Gb) or over the whole month you have to average less than 1Gb per day.

2) What happens if you go over? (In australia different ISPs have different ways of dealing with going over download limits, some cap your speed when you reach the limit eg down to 56k or something, some charge per Mb over the limit...)

i saw an older thread about this but it didnt really answer my questions. I have also emailed homechoice about it a few days ago but havent had a response yet....

It's per day. The 2MB plan has a monthly limit (45GB/month)

Duno. I vaguely recall somebody saying that caps were not activated yet at all. I just assume the Internet service will stop. At this point, you can't tell what your current usage, relative to your quota is. Too bad. Please contact HC and request a bandwidth usage statistics feature - the more people ask for this, the more they will consider it.

Their email support is very bad and slow. Call 0845 678 3333., that's generally OK.

I'm on the 512k package and went over my limit last month (by about double ) and nothing happened.

Crossed fingers for now....

thanks lads.

I suppose if they arent doing anything about going over then it doesnt really matter how they calculate it anyway.

Pretty surprising you cant get bandwidth usage stats...maybe they cant provide it because they dont have the setup in place to actual track individual users stats, which may explain why they cant punish you for going over the limits because they dont know who is and who isnt...just a guess.

That could be good if you are a heavy user, but could also be bad if everyone starts to expoit it and there isnt enough bandwidth to go around....will wait and see I guess. Dont really like the thought of signing up for 12 months without knowing what exactly their policy is with limits but what can you do ?

(yeah g'day Brush Master )

Well, yeah, I think the fact that quote isn't active yet (assuming this is actually true) only shows that the current customer numbers are well below the already available capacity on their end.

I've got my brother staying with me at the mo, and he's hooked up his PC to mine and is downloading movies and radio progs 24 hours a day. I'm on 1mb. Never had any problems from Homechoice admin.

The only problem there is, is that my surfing is considerably crippled and I've missed out sniping some good items on eBay because my bro's eMule is taking up so much bandwidth and power.

you can get software that limits the bandwidth that certain applications can use (eg http://www.netlimiter.com/) , ie can limit the amount of bandwidth that his emule uses so that you arent too affected.
