Kindle Whispersync
Brush Master
20-07-2012
I'm trying to synchronize the furthest page read between a Kindle Keyboard and two Kindle for Android apps (phone, tablet).

All are on perfect WiFi. Device Sync is enabled in my Kindle account and anywhere else as far as I can tell. All readers are registered with the same Kindle account. All have been rebooted, restarted, re-connected, etc. All experiments use the same book, downloaded to all three readers.

No matter which reader I use to read a few pages, no error will show on any of the devices, but the two other readers will not sync to that furthest read page. They are stuck on the furthest locally read page (I believe). When I enforce an explicit synchronization, a message pops up informing me that I am already on the furthest page read, which clearly isn't true across all readers.

What am I missing?

I think I had similar problems at times, but only rarely. Did you try forcing a sync on the device you just read some pages on? That way the account should be updated.

My experience is with a Kindle keyboard WiFi only, and two Android devices (a phone and a tablet), both connected by WiFi.

Well - my point is that it does not.

Amazon email support provided a generic answer, pretty much along the lines of "reboot and try again." I'll get on the phone to them when I have time. Maybe someone on this panel knows the magic trick though...

I can now report success. At least for now, I've got Whispersync and syncing to the furthest page read to work between all devices, but I cannot really say which of the steps did the trick:

For one pair (Kindle Keyboard and Kindle app on Android Tablet), I disabled syncing in the Manage Your Kindle page, and disabled Annotation Backup on Kindle Keyboard, then enabled both again.

To get the Kindle app on my Android smart phone to join in the fun, I deregistered it, uninstalled it, then re-installed and re-registered.

I have also learned that syncing to the furthest page read doesn't happen automatically, but requires explicitly calling the sync menu function.

Maybe this report helps someone with the same or similar issues.
