I don't think that Sol Heras is doing that bad a job, it's just the scripting, storylining and pacing that's been particularly poor. I think that he did a great job at playing a drugged up Ryan last night. I might've been the only one to notice it but he came back from the toilet and sniffed as if he'd been snorting something and for the rest of the episode the actor bounced around like he was high. The refusal to serve him and everyone thinking he was 'drunk' was great and very quietly underplayed - Ryan was clearly on summit. The problem, again, was the words that came out of his mouth - terrible. ![]() I do have to say though I am enjoying watching him, despite the writing. He's made far more of an impact than creepy Rob has. |

Blame the writers, not him. I can't believe how bad it's been just lately. Really, really bad.
1. Cannot stand the Sunita and Karl s/l.
Spoiler
2. Cannot stand Ryan 3. Cannot stand Sophie if the s/l is correct what is coming up 4. Cannot stand Tracy anyway no matter what she does or says. 5. Cannot stand the Tyrone and Kirsty situation. 6. Could not stand Peter and Carla. I am glad we are rid of them for a few months. There is nothing left that I want to watch, only I do like Dennis and Rita and Norris and Emily. |

Stuff like this just shows how much Corrie suffers under the pressure of 5 or 6 episodes per week. All of that happened within the course of a day or two - ridiculous.
Had it played out over a couple of weeks, it might've been a bit more believable. What I've hated even more, though is the scripting - Ryan has come out with some cringe-o-rama words and phrases that I cannot imagine, the worst being describing his biceps as "the twins" ![]() I don't think that Sol Heras is doing that bad a job, it's just the scripting, storylining and pacing that's been particularly poor. Every soap has to have druggies! so boring to watch. |

It wasn't a great story to bed him in I'll say that, the drugs story is believable for Ryan, he has always been easily led and a bit of a rebel without a clue, but trying to con his family doesn't quite ring true of the character that left two years ago. I'd have thought he'd have tried to be more like Liam who he idolised, I suppose the sleeping around is part of that maybe.
I'm giving him a chance though, because already he is about 100 times more interesting than the previous incarnation, and the actor is capable of far more too. And he doesn't look old, certainly not as old as Michelle which some are suggesting (I'm guessing these are the same people who can't get their heads around Nick Tilsley's age  ). I'd say it's Kym Marsh that looks younger than her years rather than the other way round. People are different, I'm in my mid-twenties and I've seen many teenage kids who look older than me. Reading some of the comments, I really don't know what people want from a recast. A complete clone of the original? A banishment of the very concept? |

I think the worst part is the actor isnt doing a good job of being her son. It just feels like a couple, or perhaps siblings, but not mother and son.
Rob is crap, but he has potential and if they flesh him out with some no mark stories to get his situation sorted, then he could be a good character. Ryan on the other hand is just a joke. The old one was nothing to write home about, this one is somehow more predictable than most wash out introductions. |

I think the new Ryan's acting is better than the old one, but he seems to have undergone a character transformation from a nice kid to a bit of a bad boy, which is unrealistic within the space of two years.

Utter tripe. Barbara Knox is one of the finest actresses on the show, nay television as a whole.
As for the topic in question, NuRyan is a vast improvement on the old one. He's a great addition to the cast. The fact he's easy on the eye is a plus, too. And unlike some po faced contributors earlier in this thread, actually I do think his looks make the transition more enjoyable. |

I keep reading comments along the lines of 'who cares? he looks good' I guess that's what the producers were aiming for. Heaven forbid anyone concerned themselves with the acting or finding an actor with a vague resemblance to the previous one.
Thanks for the answer! |

I'm going to go against the grain here and say I quite like him! I'm finding him quite entertaining so far.
Yes, he came across as a complete moron most of the time - but surely he was *supposed* to? The thing about 'the twins' made me laugh - just the kind of stupid thing a too-full-of-himself young idiot would say after a too many shandies. It wasn't over the top drunkenness we're too used to seeing in soaps, it was quite realistic I thought. All the bragging about his conquests and the lying about his injury came across as insincere - because it was! He's full of bluster and exaggeration and it shows. It wasn't supposed to look convincing. It was supposed to look as if he was making it up as he went along. I think he's doing a pretty good job of portraying a 20-year-old idiot who thinks he knows everything when, actually, everyone can see right through him and finds him a pain in the neck. |

Pathetic actor, totally unsuitable for the character. Corrie is slowly turning into Eastenders with it's airhead casting.

Reading some of the comments, I really don't know what people want from a recast. A complete clone of the original? A banishment of the very concept? It's a waste of time wanting a lookalike to replace someone. I mean, look at Nick? this one looks old enough to play the previous ones Dad, and aside from colouring, none of the 3 Nick's have looked anything like each other.. And the Sarah who took over from the one who'd played her for the first 12 years of her life, looked nothing like her, either. It does tend to be the 'kids' who are recast, and usually for a reason. Nick was recast cos the original wasn't deemed 'sexy' enough. Adam Rickett had the body but wasn't very good at acting. Ryan sounds like a modern day (it's 14 years since Nick was replaced) Nick. |

Terrible choice for the part, who is responsible for the casting on this show? Whoever chose this actor must have been having an off day..

I'm just relieved he's on Corrie & not EE, otherwise we'd have had thirty different threads by now saying how hot he was, how great he was, will he have a scene with Cora, will they bring so-and-so back to do a story with him, should he have had Julia's theme, was there bubbly in his fridge, blah blah blah ...

Corrie Ryan: You just can't win.
If the old Ryan came back you'd all be moaning saying he is crap and they should have recast him.
