I'm listening to MDNA right now and re-living the Birmingham concert! I don't know why some people had to complain about the setlist so much. Like others have said, it's the MDNA tour, so she's bound to be wanting to promote the album as much as possible. Sure I'd have loved to hear more of her old classics live (wish I'd gone to the Re-Invention tour!) but she did perform quite a few of her classics. But I love that, whilst initially I wasn't that keen on MDNA when I first played it (I liked about 4 songs) upon repeat listenings I like a lot more songs now (the album really is a grower) and at the gig so many of the songs I was just a bit "meh" about came alive for me and I love them much more now. It's a very inventive album. Ok it's not my favourite album of Madonna's, by any means, but it's nowhere near as lightweight as I first thought it was!
It was incredible to be so close to her when she came to the end of the catwalk. I had a brilliant view. Only a couple of times I was unable to see her properly - when she was shaking hands with fans along the catwalks and when she was lying down singing Like A Virgin (too many giant people in the way, hahah). But other than that my view was incredible and what an atmosphere. I agree, the crowd were so enthusiastic and dancing the whole time.
Re my earlier comments about Madonna not seeming to smile at all during the concert, I'm glad that she did (I must have just missed those moments) as I'd been worried that she wasn't really enjoying the gig much! Yes, it was great that she dedicated Masterpiece to her fans and it was funny when she talked about the missing motel for Gang Bang. I'd been really puzzled by the absense of it, but think she did a good job covering up!
I was amused by some guys near me regularly shouting "Madonnaaaaaaaaaa I Love you!!!!!!" so loud and hoarsely, I thought was of them was going to give himself a seizure! Lol, but that's the effect Queen Madonna has on people, isn't it?!
Wish I could go to another date of the tour. Only in an arena though, I don't do stadiums, for so many reasons! Thank god I never contemplated Hyde Park, going by everyone's reports. Doesn't sound like it was a very pleasant experience! I've been to 2 Hyde Park concerts in the past - Andrew Lloyd Webber's birthday tribute concert and the Abba Tribute concert. Both were amazing, with a brilliant line up of performers, but you can't help feeling detatched from proceedings in such a big outdoor place and the sound quality is pretty crap - and I was quite close to the stage for both events! God knows what it must have been like for the poor people at the back! Pointless going really, and as others have said you always get the idiots who go along just for a piss up and they don't even seem interested with who's performing on stage!!! Nope only arenas for me.
The NIA was fantastic but even if I'd been at the back of that it'd have been a waste of time for me. I like to have a good view of the performers on stage otherwise I don't feel part of the proceedings and may as well be watching the event on tv/dvd.
Anyway, when's Madonna coming back?!! (Lol ok yes, I'm just impatient!)
