Christina Aguilera new single 'in weeks'

Anyone excited by the return of Christina? I hope this new album is a darn sight better than Bionic. That was just woeful and with the vendetta against her at the time I'm not surprised she put that era to bed straight away.

I'm not overly concerned about the material. They'll be overcompensating after Bionic so they don't repeat it, having the best of the best and putting in a lot of effort. Whilst I'm not expecting the music to challenge Stripped, I do think it'll be good at the very least. Even within Bionic, she had some gems.

The problem will be whether radio/media/people give her a chance. If this upcoming album flops, I highly doubt it'll be down to the material.

I'm definitely excited. She's never disappointed me musically so far, despite what the critics may think about 'Bionic' and 'Burlesque'. Even if the lead single is rather generic (it can't be 100% generic with a voice like hers! ), I still think the album will be diverse and creative. That was the case with 'Stripped' as well, wasn't it? Noone could predict how amazing the album would be based on the reception of 'Dirrty'... She's going to bring it!

I don't think she'll do a generic song this time. For two reasons:

Firstly, Not Myself Tonight was generic (sounded very much like Timbaland, Lil Jon, etc. in the instrumental), and that got a generally poor reception, so I think she'll avoid something like that this time.

Secondly, recently in the mainstream music scene (which is what Christina is most involved in), the "generic" songs have recently been underperforming commercially, whilst more unique songs have been the biggest hits (e.g. Adele, Somebody That I Used to Know, We Are Young, etc.). So hopefully Christina and her label are talking note of this and will release something more in an RnB/soul/hip hop direction or an alternative/rock direction than a generic dance-pop song.

Either way, I'm very excited for the song!!

The lead single is heavily rumoured to be a Max Martin (co?)written dance/pop song called 'Love/F*ck Your Body'.

From what I remember, the people who have heard it said it was a club anthem with a brilliant beat, very commercial sounding outwith the 'f*cks' and sounds like a smash hit waiting to happen.

Can't wait to hear new material from Christina. She's one of my favourite singers ever.

By the sounds of it she will clash almost exactly with Lady Gaga's new material. So I hope Christina doesn't get lost otherwise this could be it for her

You're right, she should avoid generic singles, but I think the lead single will follow the well known pop formula of the past few years. 'NMT' did resemble some urban producers' work, but it didn't sound totally generic, since Guetta, the BEP and RedOne were running the radio back then, so maybe they'll go with something more safe.

My ideal scenario would be a safe pop lead single just to put her back on the map and then a pop/rock song with 80's influences, guitars and stipped down vocals. 'Every Breath You Take' springs to mind, but I'm probably going way too far

I don't know about GaGa, but Mariah is planning a single release in late August, so they'll clash for sure.

Gaga looks to be dropping her single mid/late August, so it's going to be Christina, Mariah and Gaga going head to head.

I feel Mariah will have drawn the short straw there.

Maybe clashing is a good thing. It's definitely much better than releasing a single when the market is dead. Besides, Mariah has Rick Ross and Meek Mill as feautring acts, so I suppose she's targetting urban radio rather than pop. Therefore, she won't be in direct competition with Christina and GaGa.

True.

I think a supposed "competition" will hype everything up. Christina vs. Gaga vs. Mariah, the media will likely go nuts.

It's guesswork, heavy rumours and insider info.

Spoiler

That took longer to explain than I thought...

I wouldn't underestimate Mariah. She had been gone for a while and had a flop on her hands with Glitter, but then came back with the huge Emancipation Of Mimi.

She may do well elsewhere but I don't think she would do that well here. However you are right she is not to be underestimated.

I liked Bionic. I thought You Lost Me was an especially good song that deserved to do a lot better than it did, but overall the extremely negative reaction to the album was ridiculous and a hate campaign fueled by Perez Hilton and Little Monsters. It shocked me at the time how a few loudmouth morons on the internet can take down someone like that.

I do hope Christina can win back the more rational people who just didn't click with Bionic/got bored/forgot about her though. She was an untouchable once in terms of pure vocal talent. I'd love to see her back on top or at least near the top. Have been a fan since the start of her career and would love to see her do well enough so that she comes to the UK on tour again.

I agree there is nothing people love more than a big comeback. That is why Christina herself might strike it lucky but I do have an awful feeling that she will be completely overshadowed by Gaga and as a result will just get lost.

I just hope Christina gets the backing of US Radio this time. The whole Not Myself Tonight thing was well dodgy if you ask me. It went from being the most requested song on US radio one week to being completely shunned the next. Then by the following week it had been dropped altogether so didn't get anymore airplay.

Lady Gaga just needs to take a break. Since 2009 she has released four albums. That is one each year (counting 2012s)

This is without throwing all the remix albums into the mix as well. Gaga even worse than Rihanna who gets slated for releasing too much.

She's certainly being quite relentless, but It'll be nearly a year and a half since her last album by the time this one drops, and about 10 months since her last BTW single. When you consider that Y&I and MTN didn't do well in most territories, she's not had a hit on the radio since last July with TEOG.

It's not really a wonder that they're wanting new material out.
