Series 7 - Your Hopes For The New Companion (Spoilers)

So, what are people's hopes for the new companion
Spoiler
, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman when she debuts a Christmas.

Me, I want her to be good mate for the Doctor, maybe akin to how Donna was but not a redux of that character or any past character if that makes sense.

And for her not to fancy the Doctor. It's a trope now we can avoid.

But yeah, mostly I want her to have the trips of a lifetime and have fun with Eleven.

I'd like her to be her own daughter whose also Amy and Rory's son whose also a Time Lord whose related to the doctors daughters wifes sisters sons mothers cousin and whose also somehow him from the future whose been created by the TARDIS

On a serious note though, I'm not fussed about it, I've not really thought that much about who she might be, I'm just distraught at Amy's and Rory's departure. It might be good (if it was done well) to have her as some unknown incarnation of Melody who came after the little girl in New York, maybe she never says anything about it (said she last regenerated in New York and didnt know Doctor) when she becomes Mels so it doesent change the future, the Doctor doesent know who she is (SPOILERS!!!) See, I think River should be a proper full time companion as she said she travelled with him in series 4 and while that's true, I think, if she's that important, she has to kinda be travelling properly with him. Unfortunately it's 99% certain this wont happen EVER

I think making her into an incarnation of River or even connected to her, Amy and/or Rory would be a massive mistake and I'm saying this as someone who enjoys all three characters there.

One of the reasons why I'm looking forward to Jenna-Louise Coleman's character is because I think it will represent a new chapter for the series and for the 11th Doctor, which is a good thing.

My one hope is that she is played by Jenna-Louise Coleman.

Congrats, that bit has happened

What else would you like to see with her?

Hopefully something unique, as promised. But not unique to the point of her being a one-shot character - serving a specific purpose then leaving. Also if I had to liken her to any previous companions, I would like her to be closer to Martha without the lusting after The Doctor and The Doctor being weighed down too heavily after the Ponds depart.

Amy/Rory leaving will no doubt hit him hard - but it hopefully won't have too much of an impact on his relationship with
Spoiler
.

But this truly has been some dream casting for me, so no matter what, I'll enjoy every second of it.

I've always liked the actress, mainly from Emmerdale and her casting was a pleasant surprise to me as well when I read about it. I think she's going to be brilliant.

With her (Probably*) being the 50th Anniversary Companion I think it would be a nice touch if she was related to a Previous Classic Series Companion.

Ian's Grandaughter for example or Liz Shaws niece or maybe another of Jo Jones' Grandkids.

Spoiler

I'm not suggesting making a major plotline out of the relationship just have it as a nod to the Classic Series. Possibly have them meet the old companion in one episode (if the actor/actress is still with us).

*She may of course leave or die at the end of Series 7 so technically would not be the Anniversary Companion.

Well if Jenna's interview with Lizo Mzimba is anything to go by, she will be in the 50th anniversary, Corwin, so your above suggestion is interesting. Maybe Chesterton perhaps?

I just hope she has a great time and makes everyone happy. Still, it would be great if she's carrying a secret from the Doctor

I think she'll be similar to Martha Jones, the Doctor lost Rose, and Martha helped him get over her. And if he does lose Amy and Rory in a similar way then he will no doubt be depressed, so Clara helps him through it. I also hope she lasts longer than 1 series, I felt Martha had so much more to give but left after 1 series which was annoying, so hopefully the new companion can stick around for a while.

I'd like it if she didn't come from 21st century Earth - maybe a Victorian ancestor of one of the above would work well as a nod to the past.

I hope she is her own character as opposed to connected to say, Amy or a previous companion. I also hope she isn't quite as unlikable as Amy (). I think Amy is a bit Marmitey. Ou either love her or hate her and I hope I'm in the love her group from now on so I don't dislike good stories just because they're about a companion I do not like.

I'd be more worried about the fact she's been stuck in another dimension, doesn't know that the Time Lords have been wiped out and the Doctor has to tell her.
Mind you that might cause some tension when she finds out he did it...

Unless they take their cue from Big Finish/IDW

I considered that a possibility but I don't see it happening to be honest.

I also think that she'll leave around the same time Eleven regenerates.
