So I got my new Macbook Air...

and I love it! It actually seems a little faster than my MBP, but that might be because it has an SSD/flash drive. OSX Lion takes a bit of getting used to. I don't mind the full screen apps too much as it's useful for web surfing if I want more extra screen space. Only thing I don't like is the lack of an optical drive but I'll remedy that in the future by buying an external SuperDrive. Any other Macbook Air owners love theirs?

Looking at getting the wife one for her birthday, did you go for the 13" or the 11" ?
I'm guessing you also went for the 128ssd x 4gb ramage

I got the 11" with a 128GB SSD and 4GB RAM. It's lovely I'm sitting in front of the TV with it on my lap while my Pro sits on my desk upstairs. It fits on my lap much better than my MBP.

No but I do have a Lion toy sitting on my shoulder as I type I like my new Air though. I hope my Pro doesn't feel jealous or neglected. It's upstairs.

I don't actually, although I've operated my Macbook Pro and iPod Touch at the same time before. The lion toy is just a stuffed lion I bought because my Air came with OSX Lion My Pro runs Snow Leopard and I have a stuffed snow leopard for that.

Just got another question - is it possible to make an OSX Lion recovery USB stick in case I need it? Where is the recovery file stored?

I love my MacBook Air, for me it's the best notebook Apple make for the everyday user with its SSD, screen resolution and same Ivy Bridge chipset as the 13" MBP plus you can bump up the RAM to 8GB now.

Looks like you'll have to buy a new toy in the next week or so if your upgrading to Mountain Lion

The SSD makes the Air very fast even though it has a 1.6GHz chip. It's nice though. Another thing I like about it is that it's small and light like the iPad but it's a fully fledged laptop. I won't be upgrading to Mountain Lion, at least not straight away anyway, so I won't have to buy a new toy just yet.

Not sure if it is if you buy a Mac with Lion already installed.

When I upgraded to Lion last year from the Mac App store download I was able to extract a file from the download image and use this to create a recovery USB key. Not sure how you would do this from a fresh OS X 10.7 install though.

Having just done a quick Google search, this may help though...

Thanks. My Air came with Lion installed (that's why I bought the toy ) I'll see what I can do.

Only irritant I'm having with my new (old) MBA is there's no wrist rest area to either end of the keyboard. So whereas on my MBP I'd hit the shift key with my thumb, on the MBA, I keep hitting the open-apostrophe key instead. Grr!

You should be eligible for the free upgrade to Mountain Lion which should come out tomorrow. http://www.apple.com/osx/uptodate/

After downloading the installer, you can show package contents then extract the .dmg file and burn to DVD (or copy it to flash drive and burn on your MBP).

Apple think you don't need physical media as Macs can download and install the OS via the internet by booting up in recovery mode (Cmd+R). But it's still handy to have, as it saves time.

edit: too much hassle to use a DVD for MBA. See http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/08/make-...b-flash-drive/

I won't be updating to Mountain Lion, at least not straight away. I want to see if there are any, erm, "known issues" with ML first before I consider upgrading I might see if I have an old USB stick lying around I can reformat and use as a Lion recovery stick.

I'm going on holiday next week and taking my Macbook Air along. I'm just worried about my poor old Pro. I probably should have a word with it before I go and tell it not to worry and that I will be back in a couple of weeks.

And how would you do that? My lion is definitely going and my snow leopard is also going. I couldn't leave him at home! I never travel without him.

I think I'd better not let anyone near my Macbook Pro, after all Mac users don't use protection Oh I will Now if you'll excuse me, I think I need to get my mind of the gutter
