As a lifetime habitual writer, I am frustrated that I don't get to share my ideas enough. With that in mind, I'll be bringing a continuing drama that I've been working on for several years now to Digital Spy.

Although it;s a little way off being premiered, I just wanted to announce it and see if people would ever be interesting in following (or even half-following) this.

It's going to take a kitchen sink look at life in the 21st century- it's a soap at heart but will be based around the realism of modern drama. It will be set in the North- roughly in an approximation of somewhere like Stockport or Widnes, the satellite town close enough to a large city. The title comes from the old phrase "Behind Closed Doors" and we look at life through the letterbox of a community comprised of different social classes, relationship forms, ethnicities and religions. A microcosm of society, with everyone having their story to tell.

There'll be 7 or 8 houses we focus on, but we'll delve into the work and school lives of the characters.

I aim to initially air 2 episodes a week on here, maybe increasing that if people are interested in it. One thing I will do is provide an "ideal" actor for each character, so you have that voice/ image in your head when reading the episodes.

Would anyone be interested in following this if I were to begin creating some characters/ first month of storylines for it?

It will be in a similar vein to Jimmy McGoverns The Street- but with a more intricate set of relationships between the characters.

There will be 7 primary houses- built during the time of my approximation of Stockports (ie- a fictional representation of a town close enough to Manchester and Liverpool to be considered "important") big expansion. The first owners of the houses were staunchly working class, and several of those remain, but now it's home to a variety of people- some neighbours are close, others no nobody else from the street. Close by will be a precinct that houses five or so shops- this gives room for independent characters and work environments.

I want to eschew typical soap features such as a local pub everybody goes to every night- I want this to be focused around community in the 21st century, with storylines that have traditional soap qualities but are played out in a different way.

I'm kind of looking at Brookside, Jimmy McGovern's The Street for inspiration- I want it to be character driven!

It will be in the format of a summary of a 22 minute episode (factoring in ad breaks!) and will have a cast list of people I'd like to play each character (not necessarily who we could actually get!)

If it takes off, I have storylines planned for the next few months- but I'd host polls/ writers discussion to get the "viewers" input and would make changes accordingly.

More will be revealed about the location soon.

Looks like's a brilliant opportunity to display grit and social realism. This will be excellent, I'm sure. I'll be keeping an eye on this. Good you're taking inspiration from McGovern - he's a class writer, very good and a hard-hitting writer as well.

There will be episode summaries and then "snatches of dialogue" from the episodes- kind of to give you an idea of the "voice" of each character.

Just for illustrative effect, this is what my Street will look like- http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&...ed=0CAcQ8gEwAA

In total, we will focus on 8 families dotted across the street.

Picture a street like any other. Cars parked on either side, terraced houses whose facades represent the taste and attitudes of those living inside them, satellite dishes sitting at odd angles, clinging like limpets onto the side of the house. What can you hear? The sound of an argument emitting from behind a chipped front door, peels of childrens laughter as they play in a scruffy front yard, the clack of heels and roar of engines as people make their way to and from work.

Who are these people and what are their stories?
