Just found this funny clip on Youtube of her being punked in the pre Gaga days.

Here she is performing two songs at a bar in New York before she became 'Gaga', just her and her piano.

She might give her right ball to do one!

Talk of balls in a Lady Gaga thread was too tempting. Sorry, Gaga fans.

Shame she then put the 'gag' into gaga. Her talent alone was enough, not all the silly stunts since.

You get conflicting reports on Gaga's rise to the top. Some say she was always crazy but then the very early videos don't really reflect that. They show a natural looking girl wearing normal clothes with immense talent just playing her piano and being very good at it. Then you have the one's who say her whole image, look and style was created along with a team of others as a project by a selection of people from three record labels..

I doubt we will ever know the true story but I think the reality is somewhere in between. I much prefer the stripped back stuff from her and always have. All the big PR stunts and crazy outfits do nothing for me. Not when she doesn't need them.

Wow, she was so lovely before her "creation."

Shows it was her record company who pushed her to do pop and dance music. Now she has pleased her record company I hope she can release an album in a style she actually likes.

Of course, but would that have sold records in today's market beside the 'Gaga' persona

I love Lady Gaga's music but I could really do without her attention seeking stunts like the meat dress. I lean to the belief that the Lady Gaga persona and image is certainly mostly studio created and not really her.

Although as much as I love The Fame Monster and Born This Way, I would also kill for a stripped back album with just Gaga and a piano and more songs along the lines of Captivated. It would be amazing.

You can see her evolution from Stefani to Gaga over the years on Youtube/Google, so I don't really get this belief that she was 'created'. The label fabrication conspiracy doesn't make sense either as she was dropped by Def Jam because they didn't know what to do with her and she adopted the name and image of "Lady Gaga" long before signing to Interscope.

I think it's more to do with the fact that she was determined to be very successful, and would therefore do whatever it takes to achieve that. She wasn't successful as Stefani Germanotta, so therefore she felt the need to change and evolve to become Lady Gaga, and you can't say she was wrong either. She was the first real new superstar of the new millenium

Or it was a final attempt by her record company to make some money out of their investment by introducing her to Pop and Dance music via Red One. I see her as more of a puppet of the record industry. She's been manipulated by her record company and so have her fans.

Incorrect.

Rob Fusari (producer and ex-boyfriend) introduced her to electropop in 2006, before RedOne and Interscope came along.

This is "Lady Gaga" in 2007 performing tracks that would later feature on The Fame. She didn't meet RedOne until the end of that year, as you can see the image and sound is well on the way.
