I think by the episode that gif is from that Ste has been working there and around him for a while (offscreen) and had definitely started to fancy him, just by the way he looks at him (even in the first scene where he's talking about rotas). But yeah he had no clue what it was. And I think if Brendan hadn't fancied him from the off then the wouldn't have given him the job .
