Despite the BBC being a taxpayer-funded organisation that's answerable to government and therefore to the electorate, they don't release that information, citing concerns about privacy, competition and the marketplace. The point therefore being that anything you read will likely be speculation or distorted leaks and should be taken with a pinch of salt...

Per The Mail quoting The Sun quoting 'an insider' (yes, yes, I know), Tennant was offered £1.5m to stay in the role after the specials, and that was a 'massive deal'. Given the way these distortions usually run and the nature of the deal they're alleging, you can assume that the regular salary for him previously and hence by Smith now was significantly less than that.

The standard rule of thumb applies: most people earn a lot less than you think. E.g. the standard salary for an MP is £65,738, and that's already 264% of the national average. Just a bit more than the equivalent of £100,000 would put you amongst the top 5% in the United States — the richest nation on earth.

I don't think it's any of our business really.

However, if someone knows, then I'll definitely be interested to know...

Wasn't Ecclestone alledgedly on a million, Tennant on about half that and Smith on about half of that ? Sure I read that somewhere or other. Probably wrong though.

Whatever it is, it would be a lot more if the BBC didn't keep wasting money on rubbish like "the Voice".

How much top producer gets paid can vary dramatically. I'd reckon that Steven Moffat gets a tidy amount of money for his work at the BBC, but that it's a fraction of what he could get on the open market - he was hand-picked by Steven Spielberg to write the screenplay for three TinTin movies, but he turned this down to take up the helm on Doctor Who.

As long as the BBC / executive producers treat him reasonably and don't cut the budget to a stupid degree, he'll likely stay in the role for as long as he feels he's adding value. In exchange the BBC get a Hollywood-class writer / producer for much less than the pure commercial market.

Be able to pay a lot more though. Chris Moyles has left so the BBC no longer have to spend all that money on his breakfast.

What I want to know though is if BBC america is a seperate entity from BBC do they have to buy Dr who from BBC

I remember seeing this article at the time - obviously all alleged as we're not going to get confirmed figures on these matters..

Quote:
The 26-year-old actor has signed a £200,000-a-year deal with the corporation to appear in the science-fiction series from next year.
His salary is understood to be a fraction of the sum paid to the existing Timelord, David Tennant, who is leaving the programme.

Mr Tennant, 37, a more established actor when hired for the role, was said to get £1 million a year.

They are not forced to buy it.

When DW started back up in 2005 no U.S network wanted it until a year later when the SciFi Channel bought it.

SciFi then aired Series 1 - 4 (with BBC America airing repeats) however for whatever reason Sci Fi did not buy the Specials and BBC America aquired the first run rights to DW from then on.
