Genuine remorse and a resolve to face up to the allegations?
Some media outlet (or other source) traced him and threatened to 'out' him if he didn't do it of his own accord?
Whoever was protecting him changed their mind about doing so?
Illness?
Lack of money?
Combination of the above?
Time will tell.

I wonder, without casting any aspersions on Barker snr, how he was affected by living with someone with such a childish view of women and sexuality. I loved the two ronnies, but too much of it was based around a Benny Hill style view of women.If his father was as obsessed in private as he was in his humour and work it must have had some effect.

Ronnie Barker though was the one who loathed dressing up as a woman.I don't associate him with the Benny Hill type stuff. He also wrote some of the sketches under the name Gerald Wiley and none of those, were indicative of someone with a bad attitude to women.

When the mother died perhaps the financial support ceased ? So he had to come back ?

Just a few months in prison, then he gets his hands on over £2 million. I don't think he came back because he suddenly gained a conscience, it's all about the £££.

My mother worked as a private secretary for 25 years for a group of psychiatrists who counselled paedophiles and convicted child killers. There's a former judge who lives around here and he is gay. He must be well in his 70s now and always has very young men living with him. In addition he has loads of gay men at his house for parties etc and they are solicitors, teachers, hospital staff etc. He goes to Thailand several times a year too. Lord knows what he gets up to.

I cannot believe that is all he got and it is suggested he may only serve half. So 6 months, for 2nd highest category images (I looked on wiki and guess this must mean level 4 and was shocked at definition of them) and going on the run for 8 years. 6 months that has got to be wrong, surely that should be looked into

Apparently, he's been on remand for three months so is likely to be a free man in just three months' time. And the media are not up in arms about the light sentence especially in light of the Savile scandal!

I know it's very odd and they don't make a big deal of it at all. I would think the going on the run for 8 years would get 6 months alone for most
and the fact they don't say what that category means, I was very shocked to find out on wiki the type of images he could of had, really awful. Also no comments for legal reasons, I thought you could comment once someone is sentenced or am I wrong Makes me very suspicious

Yes, I think it's so it doesn't spoil Ronnie Baker's legacy/image. It won't be good if we think of Ronnie Baker and then think, ah his son is a paedophile.
