Me too.

I prefer the Ian Gillan version to Steve and Ted versions (although I like Steve as Jesus). I hate the high parts of this song though and I just think Ian Gillan handles them the best.

But they all sang the role in the 'Broadway' style and my 'Jesus' was Paul Nicholas from the original WE production because although he isn't the best singer, he could act with his voice - always had a soft spot for him! He sings without some of the vocal gymnastics the others use, but I don't miss that at all from his performance.

Paul Nicholas as Jesus

My concern with Superstar is that with so many long notes, the scope for the weakness in the winner's voice to be obvious is pretty wide. I'm sure the songs will be adapted to suit the winner's voice, but there's only so much you can do with such well known songs.

Dear God..................suddenly the strange looks on ALW's face are explained as he sits on that panel every night.

THIS is what they are trying to emulate......... I don't think so !!!!

That was in a different league...........the finalists tonight could not hope to come close to that sort of performance if they were given a year to try !!!

Therein lies the issue of looking for a newbie. There are individuals out there who could come somewhere near but hey ho.

I don't think you can say he wants a Deep Purple singer at all.

He chose Paul Nicholas for Jesus for the original West End production and that's not Paul's style at all. Remember as well that Ian Gillan only sang the role, he never acted it.
