i'm one who agrees with the Spectator article, the one that was seemingly so offensive.. christ did as many people care about that lady who was recently killed, as opposed to Ken Bigley NO, i don't even remember her name, but as far as i'm aware she was someone doing genuine good.. but she didn't come from Liverpool. Anyway not to make slight the situation, the article was highlighting the way the media makes people mourn for people they don't know. To be fair we didn't know Diana, she was good looking and did charity work etc.. she got a LOT of sympathy, i don't want to bad mouth her, because i never knew her, and neither did more than 99% of the population, but Burrel is one who knew her better than so many others, he was with her when even her sons and very close family weren't. He has always got bad press, and unfairly so in my opinion. The public seem to know better than everyone else about the lives of those in the media. Saying Burrel made money off Diana's death is benign, as the papers saying that, made so much more money off her death than anyone. People don't make that much money off books for a start, even JK Rowling wouldn't be so rich just off her books, its the advances, merchandise, movies etc..
The public like to think they own Diana, yet wish the monarchy never existed, and belittle a man who actually spent time out of his life serving her, and the people she helped, what did any of us do for her or the Queen etc.. what right do we have to comment on him??
I was glad he went into the Jungle, i know they have to edit stuff to make it entertaining, but i still feel we get a pretty genuine impression of the celebs who do the show, (more so if you watch live feeds) better than what is said in the papers of them in everday life, i for one never trust tabloids for anything other than a giggle or light entertainment, and i wish more people did that, but unfortunately too many people take them as actual fact.
The public as much as they'd rush not to admit it ARE influenced by the media, but i like to think those who aren't see that, he's a normal person who's been brought up in different circumstances. Just live in a country like India, where people under the age of 10 have to do his job (much worse to be honest), serving normal middle class families like most of us, and you gain some respect for those who serve, especially in a society where it really is an option and not a last resort. Let him make his cash, while serving multi millionaires, i think Janet observes it nicely, telling him to stop cleaning, he's free etc.. but i genuinely don't think he's doing it for the cameras, i imagine that is exactly how he is at home.
He may have a chip on his shoulder to prove something to the public and be over enthusiastic in some aspects, but at the end of the day he is one the genuine ones in there, and at the end of the day a nice guy, i wouldn't mind having a drink with him.
