Put the three Band Aid singles in order of preference...
Though many are slating Band Aid 20, and to be fair it was never going to be as good as the original, is it good enough to displace Band Aid II as the second best Band Aid song ever? Or, does it replace Band Aid II as the worst Band Aid song ever?
For me, it runs in this order: Band Aid Band Aid 20 Band Aid II Band Aid II really is awful because of its too-rapidly changing pitches and vocalists - though if that wasn't quite enough, having Matt Goss' awful rendition of the "tonight thank God it's them..." line ("instead of you-oo-ooh oo-ooh, na nah" for goodness sake) is surely enough to rank Band Aid II a solid third. Do you agree? |

As I'm sure many people have seen, VH1 are quite often showing Battle of the Band Aids at the moment, allowing you to see all three in a row. Whilst the original is and will always be the best (but then that's the case with 99% of remakes of any kind), when compared to the current one I don't think Band Aid II is all that bad. I certainly think it holds up well against the current version. Very little things in life, be it records, books, films or what have you become classics in only 5 years, so when BA II came out in '89, BA 1 didn't have the status that it does today, so the idea of re-recording it with a bunch of pop stars and mixing it on a synthesizer wasn't necessarily such a bad idea. The famine crisis was still happening, someone (I forget who, was it SAW/ PWL?) had the idea to re-record it to make more money for the cause, and they made it sufficiently different from the original, otherwise what was the point in doing it?
Bono's line has only taken on its mythical status with the passing of time. By '89, there was no reason to suggest Matt Goss shouldn't do it and I don't remember there being any arguments at the time. If somone was to do it again in another 20 years, no doubt BA III will be ripped to shreds and BA IV will become the second best, and so on every time. So my order: 1, then 2 and 3 tied. |

All my opinions, of course. |

You are assuming any of them are worth listening to.

Band Aid
That's it, don't like the other two to be honest. I still remember bouncing round to the original Band Aid at Christmas Parties at school. Noone understood what it was about but we all knew the words and happily screeched "LET THEM KNOW IT'S CHRISTMAS TIME". This was in about 1990/91/92 before Band Aid II ... you will never beat the original, IMO. |

Band Aid 20
Band Aid Band Aid II Band Aid 2 was PURE POP- Kylie, Jason Donavon, Cliff Richard, Sonia, Big Fun, Bros............LOL.....it knocked Jive Bunny's "Lets Party" off the top spot in December 1989, which was the first ever record I bought with my pocket money. So Band Aid 2 deserves last place from me. |

Band Aid (by far the best version)
Band Aid II Band Aid 20 not really sure about the new Band Aid song, its nothing special like the 1st one was, will be interesting to see if it lasts the test of time in christmas's to come, or whether we will just be hearing the orginal still in 5 years time! |

Band Aid
Band Aid 20 Band Aid 2 How can anyone like Band Aid 2? Its complete and utter drivel and has no crediable artists on it. Other than Kylie and Cliff(why was he on it?) none of them are even remembered now. Was this version even authorised by Bob Geldoff? Was he involved, or did he just leave Pete Waterman to murder it?? |

Band Aid
Band Aid 20 Band Aid II As I've said elsewhere, Band Aid 20 is not great, but do hope it raises loads of money. |

Best= '84
Second best= '89 <--I'm a child of the late '80s and I still love that S/A/W sound! Third best= '04 Anyone who wants to read more about the creation of Band Aid II can do so here: http://s05.imagehost.org/0256/Number_One_mag_1.jpg http://s05.imagehost.org/0256/Number_One_mag_2.jpg http://s04.imagehost.org/0816/Number_One_mag_3.jpg and here: http://s05.imagehost.org/0256/Smash_Hits_1.jpg http://s04.imagehost.org/0816/Smash_Hits_2.jpg There is also an excerpt from the video for download at the bottom of this page: http://www.mattgoss.de/html/audio___video.html Last edited by Weierstrass : 29-11-2004 at 12:50. |

the best is the original
the 2nd attempt - well, why was it very poppy and clubbish? the 3rd one.........terrible, I really really think so............not as effective because even thou the famine is still happening, 20 years ago it really hit home all the more harder.......... althou the only touching thing in the vid is the girl who was on the brink of death, showing her as she is nowadays............. |

Band Aid - original defo the best
Band Aid 20 - up until the chorus bit is ok although don't like the rapping as it spoils it Band Aid II - can't really remember this one but after hearing it again after all these years now I know why I can't remember it anyway - total cr*p IMO I bought the original as a 7" single back in '84 but have lost it somehow so today I bought the single so I could have a copy of the original once again.

Band Aid 20 is my favourite, that's followed by the original and Band Aid II is my least favourite.
