Big coup for Jonathan Ross this Saturday:

itvpresscentre
Update: The Jonathan Ross Show (Sat 18 Aug): Usain Bolt, Colin Farrell, Kelly Brook, Jessica Ennis & Tom Daley. Music Rita Ora.
9:53 AM - 15 Aug 12

If only they could swap Jonathan Ross with Red & Black...

Accused +12% up on last year's opener and +43% up on series 1 average. Highest rated episode to date. Strong start indeed to the McGovern drama on the BBC.

Good for the Beeb there - one assumes 1 & 2 both soundly beat Lewis?

If only Graham Norton had been on...

Seriously, that is one hell of a line up. Would be tragic if only 2.5m watch and it gets beat by MOTD...

Superb retention. Unfortunately CSI wasn't at full strength last night, possibly due to Accused which blew the drama competition out of the water completely. Hopefully it'll pick up a bit over the coming weeks at 9pm. 5USA repeat windows are plentiful: Wed 10pm, Fri 11.10pm, Sun 5pm.

Why have they stuck it on 5USA not 5*? Signal levels for 5USA are appalling in my area and watching NCIS the other night, it pixelated so often it hurt my eyes.

5USA has more viewers, and all the other crime procedurals except for The Mentalist (which is perhaps more female-skewing than most, hence 5*) air there.

Mixed night for Sky Living:

Sky Living comedy #Gates began with 233,600/1.1%.

Yes, but the Walking Dead which is more suited to 5USA aired on 5* recently. It's probably more a case of which controller pleads the most

The Seven Dwarves would have romped home with well over 2m if there hadn't been Accussed.

Really?

If the Person of Interest average 1.5m doesn't that it failed to retain viewers and possibly lost 15% - 20% rather quickly?

Good rating for Accused - nice to a see decent drama being rewarded.
Good start for Bake off too - glad to see they haven't mucked around with the format.

EE getting 7.2m
A decent stable result, but not the rise some were expecting.

That wasn't quite what he meant. He meant retention for the first few minutes or so, not over the entire show. I doubt he expected it to keep all of CSI's audience.

Worth noting that was a 38.2% share according to DS - highest for a while I believe?

Not exactly a successful launch for Sky Living's new Autumn schedule. Gates did ok, Sing Date was always going to flop but the Styled To Rock figures are very poor and presumably a disappointment to Sky.

Mount Pleasant, which did well in its first series on Sky 1, moves to Living next week for series two and will presumably suffer some sort of fall off.

Sky Living needs a tent pole show but it looks like they haven't found it quite yet.

Indeed, but that's hardly being "the face of the Olympics", is it? The faces of the Olympics were the Olympic athletes themselves.

Well, I know it's got a stupid name but DIY SOS still gets good ratings and this is just that but in the garden. It's not a genre I have a great deal of love for - I loved that Impressions Show parody of DIY SOS with Nick Knowles telling crap jokes and going "We have such a laugh here, we really really do" - but it seems inoffensive enough. If ITV can show Love Your Garden for an hour in primetime BBC1 can show a gardening show there as well.

Well, there's an obvious reason for that, they both have the news at ten, which is exactly why Five should be showing more programmes at ten, so they can attract those who don't want to watch the news.

Not so bad for that, which makes me wonder about The Rob Brydon Show and whether the clash of the two shows was a mistake. I don't mind Brydon's show because I like Rob but I wonder why it managed to survive the DQF pledge of "fewer panel games and chat shows on BBC2" as it's not really very distinctive. And there was a review in Time Out of the last series which says the major flaw is that it feels like every single thing in the show is scripted, which is exactly right.

Didn't watch it but can I just say Sing Date is the worst name for a TV show ever.

So EE event week/relaunched has not been the success they were hoping for, 7.2 million is what they were achieving before the OG.

Person of Interest did fine for its slot, Accused just wow, BBC must be pleased and finally not even that line up on Ross would make me watch.

New Girl is doing rather well on E4 isn't it?

Also am going to go ahead and say Bad Education had 1.1m. That repeat comes within the overnights and on the same channel.

10pm = 830k
12:30am = 310k

Total Audience = 1.14m
Pretty strong launch for BBC Three.

EE meanwhile failing to make 8 million:
BBC One = 7.19m
BBC Three = 733k
Total Overnight Audience = 7.923m

Thats just not very good for the 'relaunch'. BBC should worry about how their going to do Christmas if EE doesn't pick up. Certainly it shouldn't take that 9 slot again even if Downton is there.

I think it'll just take some fine tuning over the next year or so to get it back to those good figures. Big lesson though for the Beeb - don't just put people in charge because their next in line.

yes I was hoping for more from EastEnders last night, then again the episode was not as good as Mondays. Meanwhile they keep holding the big reveal back, which cant be helping matters.

Love that last line of your post, very true though, EE needs a big hitter in charge.

If the reveal fails to hit at least nine mill then the BBC will be disappointed.
