That might give the "EE in crisis" mob something to think about, unless they just stick to their "9m a night relaunch" mantra...

That seems a good number for an unusual night with absolutely no clues to viewers that it was on - the BBC seem to be playing hide and seek with EE at the moment.

Await the match average numbers with interest - assume it best WDYTYA as expected, but it may be close. On the face of it, a desperately poor number for the coverage overall!

Oh dear.

Considerably down on the last "episode" in June which peaked at about 24m didn't it?

rzt would no doubt do the percentage change had he not vanished into the ether....

I just wonder if Channel 5 are in danger of milking the format rather too much by having one format following on so quickly after the last one, leading to viewer fatigue. Especially so given the lukewarm reception that BB seemed to have all through its run.

There's also talk of having the Celeb version twice a year, overkill, it's just not event TV anymore.

Haha i do think there is a slight difference between the consequences of the 24mill match and last nights, but lets not that get in the way of another Robbie Hates ITV rant

Eastenders did alright for an out of slot screening, however speaking as an EE fan, it is disappointing that the murder reveal was hidden away in this slot with no direct promotion, not even a voiceover at the end of Tuesday's episode.

Flowerpot gang didn't catch on then - thought it might do a "surprise" 4.25m +.

WDYTYA did well at 9pm, it does seem past its peak ratings nowadays though.”

The reveal was promoted in several newspapers although not on screen which seems rather odd bearing in mind the coverage Sharon's return got.BBC very inconsistent at the moment in promoting its own programmes.

No, but I don't think a England primetime match on ITV or BBC has ever been that low. (Team GB from last month doesn't count)

Common sense of course.

Sorry didn't mean to be mean, right on the first one but obviously life in the old dog fading WDYTYA

CBB had no promotion and for once, I don't think many viewers will tune out of this one. C5 will be happy with that.

Thats just not very good for the 'relaunch'. BBC should worry about how their going to do Christmas if EE doesn't pick up. Certainly it shouldn't take that 9 slot again even if Downton is there.

I think it'll just take some fine tuning over the next year or so to get it back to those good figures. Big lesson though for the Beeb - don't just put people in charge because their next in line.”

Yes, I think it'll take a year or so to sort everything out. Worth remembering what we're seeing at the moment is stuff Kirkwood had planned, with perhaps a few minor adjustments. With a soap, you can't just tear everything up and start again. You have to mend it bit by bit, and that takes time.

Great numbers for the late night spinoffs:

11pm: Celebrity Big Brother Live: 1.7m (14.0%)
11.30pm: Celebrity Big Brother's Bit on the Side: 712k (10.3%)

Good, for both of them, that late night share must have made it about the same as BBC3 in those hours??

Eastenders-8.192 (7.44m BBC One; 752k BBC3)

Everything is pretty much what I'd expected. Football I don't think was 'bad' and it was never going or supposed to rate 'big'.
CBB did well though.

Very positive. Fair to say the line ups a hit then. I think theres a possibility of CBB growing over the weeks.

Not that I watched it but it's Julian Clary, Julie Bloody Goodyear, Coleen "Noreen Colon" Nolan, Cheryl HeatheroffofEastEnders and Martin "From Spandau Ballet and 'stEnders to SCS and this, he must have had a massive tax bill" Kemp. Quite an interesting line-up as these things go.

In primetime certainly, but let's not write off football because the minute we get a big Premier League match MOTD will be enjoying huge ratings. I think this is the last time there's going to be this August friendly as nobody likes it.

And 'stEnders on BBC3 as well. But it's never got big audiences.

I wonder if George and rzt are holed up in the Ecuadorean embassy claiming ratings asylum until ITV's big hitters safely return?

Interesting extra nugget of info here regarding CBB (via MediaGuardian):
Quote:
“Following the CBB launch, Celebrity Big Brother: Live from the House (11pm: 1.7 million/14.5%) and Celebrity Big Brother's Bit on the Side (11.30pm: 700,000/10.7%) made Channel 5 the most-watched among the five main networks for more than an hour from 11.15pm.”

Flogging a dead horse is not in the remit of the BBC Charter.

Regarding its 7.44 rating, pretty poor for the reveal, it should be closing the gap on corrie but it's stagnant.
